When good communication asks you to show up… don't shrink.

A conversation I had recently with Dr. Jenkins and a colleague really stayed with me:

In healthy communication, you don't have to make yourself smaller just to make someone else comfortable.

Showing up authentically—expressing your thoughts, needs, feelings, and boundaries—is not an insult to the person receiving them.

Of course, *how* we show up matters. We can be honest and direct while still being curious, respectful, and connected. That's part of the work of building healthier relationships.

And that's exactly what we'll be exploring at our next **Safe, Seen & Heard Relationship Wellness Experience**:

✨ **The Language of Connection**
📅 **Saturday, August 29**
🕤 **9:30 AM–12:30 PM**
📍 ** The Mood Room - Houston, TX**

We'll explore practical ways to communicate with intention, navigate conflict, create emotional safety, and stay connected without losing ourselves in the process.

Swipe/keep watching for the flyer and registration details. I would love to see you there!

**Healing Patterns. Strengthening Legacy.** 💛

Sometimes the best way to keep doing meaningful work is to step away, connect, and be restored. A few weeks ago, I had the chance to travel to New England, where I met with my mastermind group, worked on projects for my companies and soaked up the gift of being nurtured by an amazing group of people. Thanks so much @revdrtlc, @itsrubyave, @court_swisher, @kymberleyclemonjones_drkc, and @carlton.e.smith19!

Although my visit was to Connecticut, I also got to spend time in Boston and Providence. It was such a joy to reconnect with my friend and former colleague @saragrunert and her family.

And Mystic, CT remains one of my favorite towns! I’m so glad we got to spend our last evening there. Before heading to the airport, we made one final stop at @downeastcider for cider tasting — and if you like cider, this is definitely a place to visit!

Grateful for meaningful work, good people, beautiful places, and moments that remind me to rest, play, and receive. I’m already looking forward to doing it all again — and more — very soon. What’s one place that always helps you feel refreshed? #workhardplayharder #selfcare #newenglandlife

It’s been a very busy week! House sitting Ajax and Wilha, running between DC and MD to care for my godpup Laila, followed by housesitting Jackson (Jax) the Doberman and his feline sister Pluto and my regular drop-ins with A+W. We all had a great time together and the two households had play dates Tuesday and Wednesday. They are familiar with one another and friendly communication and boundaries were reestablished under my watchful eyes and attentive ears. It was great seeing all the pups be friendly and playful with one another and a sure sign of their comfort is that we all piled onto the couch for a nice nap time before I took A+W home. A+W’s father was very happy the doggies were so tired and said that they didn’t stir at all after dinner those nights. A job well done! #stressless

Still recuperating but finally out and about for the first few times since being assaulted: Mother's Day with mom outside Tampa; Atlanta for Teala's graduation from Spelman (with Ruby in pic as well); back in San Francisco with Hugo and me at Andreas's birthday gathering; me and Truth with Tory Teasley at "Divas & Drinks" at The Academy SF, and then with Tocosa and Chris there as well (and SF Mayor London Breed in the background); lastly, me and Chris and Truth and Sue at the Russian River.

More pics from the MLK Agape Gala. What a fun night. It was great to celebrate with family and friends. It was impossible to take pictures with everyone.

It was an incredible night of honoring folks in the community who are advocates for social justice and equity. I’m truly in awe of their work in the community. I am extremely blessed to be supported as I lead the charge to rebuild MLK after an act of hate. This amazing event showed the power of love in the face of hate.
