I originally conceived @losangelessetsatable as a way to connect and build community (the full story is a couple of posts back). Working together I think we exceeded that goal.

The work that each artist created for the table settings was absolutely stunning and perfectly aligned with the spirit of the project. I was blown away by everyone’s creativity, imagination and unique vision.

When we lost our studio in the Eaton Fire we never would’ve gotten back on our feet without our artistic community. I love Alexander Girard and I know that this love is shared by many of you. In the mid 1950s he was commissioned to design experimental table settings that broke away from traditional formal dining for an exhibition at the Georg Jensen store in NY.

Inspired by the research I did on that show I wanted to do something similar here in Los Angeles. The plan was to enlist my talented friends to join me in creating elements for a table setting that would be exhibited in a shop or gallery. In early 2020 I had started to invite people to participate and was in the process of securing a venue. When everything changed that March I put the project on hold.

Los Angeles has been through quite a lot in the years since then. Late last year I thought it might be the right time to bring the show back to life.

I’ve teamed up with @chevill + @chrisin323 of @thoughtforms_studio to curate and produce Los Angeles Sets a Table as part of @ladesignweekend. We have assembled an amazing line up of artists and designers to create and collaborate on pieces made especially for the show. Not just the place settings but also tables, chairs, centerpieces and a few surprises I can’t wait for you to see.

Many thanks to the team at @ravenhill__studio for the use of your beautiful space. Hope to see you there on September 27th 3-6pm and October 4th 3-8pm.

Hi guys.

Open studio this weekend as I kick off getting back to the swing of things with the @craftcouncil open studios as my motivator.

It took my 18 months but finally rolled my first slab and am starting to plan out the future of my studio and space. Come by for a visit!
