Usually, musicians perform at raves. At ours, musicians will read.

Pavlo Hots will take on Life Is Interesting by Petro Mastovchuk. Director Pavlo Ostrikov will share excerpts from his screenplays, including some that have never been published. Zhenia Babenko and Svitlana Levchenko will read from their own books, while the editors and contributors of Solomiya will present their publication.

Natalia Haripova has chosen a book with the rather telling title The Dog Shat, the Geese Farted, or The Great Encyclopedia of Life. And Oleksandr Khomenko will read something that will divide your life into before and after. At least, that’s what we’re counting on.

In this carousel, we’re introducing everyone who’ll be reading aloud and sharing the full schedule. Swipe through, pick who you want to hear, and save it for later.

Although we recommend listening to everyone. Especially if you happen to have seven free hours this Wednesday.

September 30, 12 PM–7 PM
KPI Library, 37L Beresteiskyi Avenue

Readings: 6th floor, Room 6.5
Admission is free with prior registration. Link in bio.

We are extremely happy to announce that our new issue, Solomiya No.6—State of the Nation, is available for pre-order! Reserve your copy in Ukraine and internationally at a reduced price of 16€ (18€) / 700₴ (800₴) until September 4, 2026.

We started thinking about this issue at the 61st Venice Biennale, a place built around dialogue between nations. Yet again and again, conversations about art and politics returned to national identity: who belongs, who speaks for a nation, and whose solidarity counts. The return of the Israeli and Russian pavilions brought protests and solidarity movements, but these movements often remained separated from one another. Meanwhile, Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian cities continue to intensify, with negotiations still out of reach. We began asking what happens when the nation becomes the main language through which we understand politics.

State of the Nation looks at nationalism as something so familiar that it can become almost invisible, connecting experiences that do not fit neatly into national categories: migration, uncertainty about the future of the war, contested identities, and forms of solidarity that cross borders. Across the issue, these questions take us through nationalist traditions in postwar Germany, counter-mapping in the ancient Mediterranean, solidarities between Estonians and Russophone Estonians in Narva, new approaches to artistic mentorship in Ghana, reflections at Ukraine’s national Minute of Silence, and others.
