Thank you so much to our Club Carla members for joining us last Saturday for our Chinatown Gallery Hop led and co-organized by CC member and educator Jill Spector (@infavorofus), and to the four galleries that hosted us!

We began our afternoon at Charlie James Gallery (@charliejamesgallery) and heard from a few participating artists in the group show “Cosecha” curated by Ever Velasquez.

From there we moseyed a couple store fronts south toward NOON Projects (@noonprojects), where Daniel Jack Lyons (@danieljacklyons) led an artist talk and walkthrough of his solo exhibition “Days Change at Night.” At NOON, Daniel shared with Club Carla members a bit of history behind his photo documentation of “Club sCUM,” which was a monthly queer and punk party based in East Los Angeles that highlighted marginalized identities within local drag, music, and art scenes.

Across the cobblestone path we skipped to Izzy Lee (@izzyleegallery) to view “Grammar Girls,” featuring works by Annie Bielski (@anniebielski), Rina Goldfield, and Molly Zuckerman-Hartung. Bielski spoke with us about her creative practice while working as an adjunct professor, and the regional influences of her years spent across the Midwest, Southwest, and Hudson Valley in her work.

Finally, the Carla Crew marched down Hill Street to connect with Keith J. Varadi of Gene’s Dispensary to see “Being and Longing: Enough Is Never Enough” showing works by artists Beatrix Fowler, Kim Gordon, Mauricio Guillén, Chris Kraus, and Jonas Mekas.

Become a member today to join us for our next event happening in September!🪽

It’s somehow already the last week of my solo show “Circular Ruins” at @izzyleegallery - the last day is May 30! If you’re in Los Angeles I hope you can stop by. Also don’t miss the interview I did with fellow painter Kristy Luck (@luck_kluck ) last week 💕✨ link in bio

Throwback to one year ago at @izzyleegallery before I imminently reveal my new non-yellow painting

Drawing plays a vital role in my practice and painting process. The speed and vibrancy of pastel lets me experiment with palette, shape, and composition. For these drawings I kept a narrow palette wanting certain colors and shapes to carry you through the grouping, creating patterns and parallels from work to work.

I made this new series of drawings alongside the work on view in my show “Circular Ruins” at @izzyleegallery through May 30.

“dream time (broken clock II)”, 2026, oil on linen, 10 x 8 inches

This small painting is part of the broken clock series I started while in residence at @macdowell1907 in summer 2025. The series ultimately helped shape all the new work on view in my solo show, “Circular Ruins” at @izzyleegallery — the show (and this painting) is on view for just two more weeks, through May 30 in Los Angeles.
