TWO players who paid to tryout for the G League SCORED in the NBA tonight! John Ukomadu, a G League tryout player for the @motorcitycruise in 2024, scored 6 PTS off the bench for the Pistons - his first NBA points. Philip Wheeler, a G League tryout and practice player in 2021, threw down an alley-oop for the Suns for his first bucket with Phoenix. 🙏 @j.3x_ @phillipwheeler23

Just two weeks ago, Ukomadu and Wheeler led G League United to the GOLD medal at the @fibaic in China - the first gold in G League history.

This is AMAZING! In 2024, John Ukomadu paid to attend open tryouts for the @motorcitycruise…tonight he played in his FIRST NBA PRESEASON GAME for the @detroitpistons! The 6’7” swingman checked in late in Q4 and had the defensive stop to force OT. He is on a training camp deal and battling for a final spot on their roster. He spent the last two years in the G League where he averaged 10.1 PPG on 42% 3PT. 🙏 @j.3x_

John won the 2026 G League AT&T Slam Dunk Contest. Two weeks ago, he helped G League United win gold for the first time at the @fibaic in China!

Since winning GOLD at the @fibaic, FOUR G League United players have signed NBA deals! Sean East II with the Kings, Lester Quinones with the Heat, Phillip Wheeler with the Suns, and John Ukomadu with the Pistons. These are the FIRST NBA training camp opportunities for East II and Ukomadu. ✍️🥇

East II averaged 19.0 PPG in the G League and was selected to play in the Rising Stars & Next Up Games. Quinones averaged 23.3 PPG and earned All-G League First Team honors. Wheeler (14.9 PPG) and Ukomadu (10.4 PPG) were both G League tryout players at one point.

Former @macombmbb star, John Ukomadu, has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Detroit Pistons! With this contract, John will officially begin the season in Pistons training camp!

An NJCAA All-American while at Macomb, John went on to play at NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky University before playing for the Motor City Cruise of the NBA G League. From there, John earned a G League All-Star Weekend invite and was the 2025-26 G League Slam Dunk Contest Champion. He most recently helped the G League United take home the FIBA Intercontinental Cup in China!

Congrats, John! Well deserved and keep pushing! 👏👏
