A Great First Quarter - Feat Chocobella

Sep 25 - back to my roots, slowing down to stop and smell the (frozen) roses!

7 days hiking in cool conditions. Cold toes, warm huts, elusive views and quality company. Started with Frenchman’s Cap, enjoying the heated (to 10 degrees) Tahune Hut and then rolled straight into the Overland Track. A joy to experience some tas classics in the snow.

Spent the winter riding the bike around. Enjoyed the solo time and that with company.

TL;DR - the race I was preparing for didn’t go to plan. I find the unsupported, solo, multi day race format so inspiring but it continues to allude me. Apparently you learn more from failure than success.

Had fun picking up a $1200 bike from marketplace and building it out (with the help of Josh and Zac from @omafiets).

Perhaps going to shelf the bike racing for a little as I am enjoying the running and climbing.

What is fastpacking?

Am still unsure - some combination of slow running and fast hiking?

Took the first day cruisy (probably a mistake), second day quickly turned into an epic. Dried up water sources, too much sunshine and rough, sometimes non existent trail - turned into an 18 hour push.

67km, 4000m vert, 6 hours sleep, 20 hours driving, not enough calories

Incredibly thankful for Steven and Peter who gave us a lift back to our car through the high country and some steep 4wd tracks. Would probably have missed work on Monday otherwise

Razor Viking Wilderness Area - A couple of days spent fast packing deep in the Victorian High Country. Tough going with minimal water refill points and very slow progress as our navigational skills were tested through dense bush and scrub with no defined trail.

Eastern Arthurs + Federation Peak + Western Arthurs. Farmhouse Creek to Scott’s Peak Dam.

After briefly meeting @j_cannon.ifc skiing in Victoria the winter prior, we committed to locking this one in. Turns out he’s a lovely guy.

16/11/2024 - A short recap of @greatsouthernendurancerun (85km, 4k vert)

A lot of fun running in a beautiful part of the world.

First 50k went well running with @julianschulzz (who went on to win!)

Last 35k had intense cramping issues and held on for an eventual 7th place.

@j_cannon.ifc was amazing help at aid stations <3

Continuing to learn and enjoy running.
