Now and Then 👻⛩️🏯 My exhibit @studiokura last month, with all the things I created in the two months I was there for this art residency. I was able to venture into mixed media and produce some larger pieces than I normally would, and have the bulk of them created non-digitally. As a graphic designer and illustrator, creating work off-screen can feel particularly special. What an incredible experience it was to create and exhibit with such great artists in a place like Itoshima 🌾🍓✨ First image: “Karatsu Castle // 唐津城” Acrylic gouache on collage Description of my exhibition in comments below Week 7 + 8 posts to come

This series of works touches upon the influence of the everyday on my practice. In dealing with the recent passing of my mother to cancer in 2021, the therapy of my artistic process is influenced by my daily observations. With the recent job title as a postman, I found myself obsessed with the beauty of ugliness, particularly in fluorescence and reflective unnatural colours due to the inherent nature of my workplace setting. Working as a postman I further found a lot of materials on curb sides and utilised them in some of my recent works in 2024 and 2025. After recently driving around a larger part of Japan, I find myself drawn in by so many road reflectors, flashing lights and signs. The irony I see in this, is that they intend to warn and create a safe driving environment, however, at many times I find them to be very distractive. The following works are influenced by colours of Japanese roads and signage. They follow on from a body of work that consider the influence of the day-to-day on my practice.

Joshua Copland-Nielsen (Australia) focuses on a multitude of mediums, that include video work, printmaking, casting, sculpture and more. He completed his Master of Fine Art in Printmaking at the National Art School in 2023, and Bachelor of Art Theory at UNSW Art & Design in 2019. He represents the body in his work via their absence, focusing on thematics of the spectre. In recent years, the repetitive use of the chair has been used to display an object that cradles the human body and collects the essence of the person that sits upon it. After recently working as a Postal Delivery Officer in Australia, he is further influenced by motorbikes, road signs and the use of reflective or hi-vis colours. Although his works impart a playful visuality, through colour and an array of materials, his themes tie closer to the journey of learning to live with ongoing process of grieving, and how practice and process helps.

CALL OUT ‼️
We invite submissions for HOME, an exhibition exploring the evolving and layered meanings of ‘home’ as a physical, emotional, political, and imagined space. Far beyond a dwelling or structure, home is a repository of memory, identity, and aspiration. It may be a place of refuge or restriction, permanence or displacement, tradition or transformation. As borders shift and social constructs evolve, the boundaries and definitions of home blur. This exhibition asks: how does creativity navigate these tensions? It seeks to examine how artists interrogate, interpret, and reimagine what ‘home’ means in contemporary contexts. We welcome both speculative and realised works that expand the conversation on what home means today. 📌 To participate, please fill a submission form, link in bio ⬆️⬆️⬆️ https://airtable.com/appdIbledqKpl7IfG/shrtscfLfMb7I0GkD Submissions due FRIDAY 25 July 2025 Install 30 July - 1 Aug Opening Saturday 2 August 3-5pm Exhibition dates 2 - 24 August 2025 Please email beata@articulateprojectspace.org if you have any questions #articulateprojectspace #callout #groupexhibition #home #art #design #architecture #contemporaryart #exhibition #exhibitioncallout
