‘BATTLE PIG’
Posca on Surfboard
.
Ok so this was the original idea for my last Posca canvas ‘Haz & Baz’ that I finished the other week.
.
The idea came from my old favourite surfboard affectionately called ‘Battle Pig’.
Over the years this idea came to me that ‘Battle Cat’ from He-man & the Pig from The Simpsons could somehow be combined in a bit of art on the board,
After all, she deserved it … having surfed some of the best waves of my life on her at some of the best locations Blacks, Grandmas, G-Land, Deserts, One Palm, Gnaraloo, Bluff, Jacques, ExBom & probs some more that I’ve forgotten, but note… all lefts,
See it’s got bit of a twist 🙄 but seemed to help in lefts… my efforts in rights on her left a lot to be desired 😔
.
Forgot to mention I’d hand shaped as well as the whole manufacturing process, glassing, sanding, glass-on fins & finishing … but never put ART on 🤦‍♂️
.
This was one of the last boards I made at my Starr Ave factory, before I loading the van with all my possessions & moving West & living in my van over 20 years ago, #vanlife before it was a thing 🤓
.
So to say a bit of colour was over due is an understatement,
But I was a bit out of practice on surfboards & ran into trouble quickly.
I’m lucky to have other artist around me that are generous with their knowledge,
First I hit up @jeremy_ievins who has a black belt in Posca art, then the godfather of Posca surf art @drewbrophy … if it wasn’t for him, I doubt many of us would realise the potential of this medium, then @j2ske for the revaluation to use navy for the outline instead of black 🤫, @eyrefoiler jumped in for a bit of mechanical bond theory & @chriskunko & @spike__chilligan for moral support while showing them sneak peeks 🫣
.
To all of the above mentioned, I thankyou for sharing your wisdom.
.
So Battle Pig is done, the big question is will I ever get to ride her again as she is a bit sleek for my frame & years…
Hopefully Harry or Chili surf her, she still has a few more barrels left in her 👌🤞
.
The last couple of images on this post are when my connection with her was strong 💪
.
So if you’ve got through this waffle & BS you deserve an award, but all I have is a thankyou, 🙏

Dockside Festival was such a great event to kick-start the busy 2025 festival season! Two amazing groups came on a FREE walk with Flamboyance Tours made possible by City of PAE, showcasing snippets of the Port in a one-hour guided experience.

What great energy locals bring to a community event like this, wanting to learn more about the Port Adelaide area and getting curious. The event showcased some great local eateries, amazing AI experiences, and drew attention to the historic Hart's Mill area!

The current Artist in residence exhibitions feature works that were initiated a year ago though due to unforeseen circumstances were not able to be completed or exhibited. This year long delay has instigated unexpected developments, deeper inquiry and against the changing local landscape now offer expanded site responsive perspectives.
You are invited to hear from current exhibiting artists Meng Zhang, Jennifer Eadie & Adrianne Semmens and Josh Trenwith on 21 September 2.30-3.30 for a casual afternoon of talks.
Tea served around 2.15.
