Learning that balance is different than it was before parenting. Some things go, and new ones come. Someone told me they read these captions and find them moving. Like they reflect something about the experience. Those aren’t their exact words, but what they said had an impact on me. Later that night I wrote this -

Parenting is an art.
The art of needing help
and not knowing how to ask for it.
It’s abstract. The more time spent with it
the more it reveals itself. Changing suddenly
in exhaustingly slow ways.
Reflecting experiences back. It’s the art of
reaching a limit
and discovering there’s more beyond it.
More love. More struggle.
More capacity. More learning. More adapting. More joy.
It is the art of days passing
and becoming aware of what was
and is no longer.
The art of discovering feelings
that weren’t there before.
In each day, I find new words
and then
I lose them. Some return if I’m lucky.
Others I write and erase
like the ones here before these.
And I am ok with them going.
Parenthood is like that. Some days it comes. And
some days it goes.
We have no power over it.
Only to give it each breath. And begin again.

Amidst the challenges of life, whatever they may be, there is so much goodness to be found in the smallest moments. In ourselves. In our unfailing ability to see beauty. The way light slowly fades in the evening. The way a child looks at our face in the morning, filled with joy to be loved again for a day. Thankful for this life and all the people I’m blessed to have in it.

Video is 4-7 months (Max turns 9 months next week!)
