SQUARE PEG SOCIAL. Year two hanging in Austin, Texas with some of the best and most promising filmmakers out there. The brainchild of director Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar, Beau Is Afraid, Eddington) producer Lars Knudsen (Primetime, The Drama, Dream Scenario, The Witch, American Honey, Bugonia) and producers Amy Knudsen and Mandy Ward, Square Peg Social is five days of nonstop talk about the art and industry of filmmaking; honest, vulnerable, matter of fact conversations you won’t hear at any festival or on any recorded panel.

Lars Knudsen & Ari Aster share wisdom from the trenches. The days are filled morning till late night with conversation, panels, lunches, social mixers, screenings and Q&A, dinners, drinks and late night antics, including yes, some wild karaoke and dancing.
Although the schedule is tight, the vibe is still loose. There is no better film community than this one.

Arkasha Stevenson & Tim Smith, the writer-producer-director team behind and The First Omen and their forthcoming A24 film Pussy.

THE CHIMNEY SWEEPER 💂❄️

TRADITION IS A LEGACY THAT SOMETIMES NEEDS TO BE BROKEN.

At this year's International Documentary Competition, we present "THE CHIMNEY SWEEPER". Markus makes nutcrackers for a living, as did every forefather before him. But this isn't just a film about craftsmanship; it’s a story about the weight of legacy and the sons who choose a different path.

Director Jack Raese, an independent auteur, traveled 4,512 miles to a snow-capped town to film this solo. An official selection of the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, the film uses fisheye lenses and absurdist humor to bridge the gap between a traditional father and an artist son. It is a deeply personal documentary about seeing our families through a distorted, yet revealing, magnifying glass.

With local and national talent on display, every film in FFF’s signature documentary program tells a powerful, true, and sometimes outrageous story you’ll have to see to believe. Explore some of the doc films this year’s fest has to offer:

⭐️Punkie – An unflinching portrait of the first out Black SNL star Punkie Johnson gives audiences a chance to follow the powerhouse comic on the road as she preps for a stand-up special

⭐️Welcome – Shawn Welcome reflects on the winding path he’s taken to becoming Orlando’s first African American poet laureate.

⭐️SANTACON – SantaCon, Sometimes referred to as Santarchy, Santapalooza, Santa Rampage, and the Red Menace, is an event that lures tens of thousands of drunken revelers to dress like Santa Claus and invade countless cities.

⭐️The Chimney Sweeper – A fourth-generation nutcracker maker discusses his craft and his decision to take up the family business instead of his inclination to become a chimney sweeper.

⭐️School For Defectors – Jeremy Workman (Secret Mall Apartment) takes his camera to Busan, South Korea, where he follows 20 students from the tiny Jangdaehyun Boarding School—all North Korea defectors.

⭐️A Man Who Takes Pictures of Flowers – With stunning stop-motion animation, we hear a Korean photographer share his passion for capturing images of flowers for 45 years.

⭐️Seized— Marion, Kansas, erupts after a police raid on its local newspaper and the death of its 98-year-old owner, exposing abuses of power, First Amendment violations, and deep town divisions.

⭐️Correspondence – A filmmaker conducts a mediated interview with the man convicted of murdering his grandmother in a robbery in 2005.

⭐️Y Vân: The Lost Sounds of Saigon – Legendary Vietnamese composer Y Vân is rediscovered by his granddaughter in this story that spans three generations and two continents.

⭐️Hollywood’s Mermaid: The Esther Williams Story – From swimming champion to Hollywood starlet, Esther Williams broke down barriers and persevered through tragedies to become “Hollywood’s mermaid.”
