The story doesn’t end with the institutions that came before.

The 2010s saw South African women pushing beyond local borders, while the rise of digital media opened up entirely new ways to create, publish and build audiences. By the 2020s, the idea of a single media industry had almost disappeared altogether.

Today, women are moving between film, music, journalism, fashion, publishing, strategy, entrepreneurship and community-building — often simultaneously. From @thuso.mbedu and @nomzamo_m taking South African talent to global screens, to women like @asandasizani, @jackiemay_sa, @felicianaiwa, @renae_mangena, @anastatia_n , @hlengsinthemorning and @popi_sibiya building new platforms and possibilities at home.

Perhaps the question now is no longer how women will enter existing institutions, but what they will build themselves.
And this story is still being written.

[NEWS] Looking back at The Blueprint for a Regenerative Fashion Future launch, as the manifesto is presented on the continent today at TWYG’s Africa Textile Talks (@africatextiletalks) in Cape Town.

Lagos Fashion Week (@lagosfashionweekofficial) unveiled the manifesto last month during London Climate Action Week in partnership with The Earthshot Prize.

Built on ten pillars, from cultural heritage and circularity to waste justice and market access, it names what Africa has practised for generations as the foundation for a fairer fashion industry, and gives that claim a shared language and a visionary coalition to carry it from intention to action.

As we begin a new chapter of growth and conclude our experience at All Fashion Sourcing Cape Town 2026, we reflect with gratitude on the partnerships that made this journey possible.

It is just precious to look at photos of our growing “wool family” from the @karoo_winter_wool_festival
The photo booth corner at our stand with @inkeknitwearct was one of the highlights of the event for us.

We are already looking forward to our family reunion
of sorts next year.

Sometimes, we only recognise the pattern when we look back.
These collages hold years of conversations, gatherings, experiments, tides, laughter, learning, and deep care. They tell the story of the Beach Co-op, but they also surface something else. They remind us that our work was never only about the beach.
It has always been about the relationships that make life possible. The connections between veld and sea, freshwater and ocean, plants and people, memory and belonging. The ways we care for place, and how place, in turn, cares for us.

Earlier this year, at our @womenviroafrica gathering, @roushannagray and I shared a vision that had been growing: the Veld and Sea Co-op.
Not a new beginning, but a deepening.
A widening of our collective imagination.
An invitation to hold whole landscapes instead of fragments. To honour the ecological, cultural and ancestral threads that weave together land and sea. To continue co-creating spaces where science, story, creativity and community come together in creating more just and thriving futures.
The Beach Co-op has brought us to this shoreline.
The Veld and Sea Co-op invites us to journey beyond it.

As we strandloop on this journey, we’d love to hear your Beach Co-op memories. If you’ve been part of a beach clean-up, workshop, celebration or moment of care with us over the years, we’d be honoured if you shared your favourite photos & tagged us, or comment below. Together, these moments tell the story of what we’ve built as a community.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more about the evolution of our work through @thebeachco_op into the Veld and Sea Co-op; why this transition feels both timely and necessary, what it means, and the exciting plans we have for this next phase.

London Climate Action Week.

Thank you @earthshotprize for creating the space for this important moment. Impact Assembly was 💥✨. Listening to the founders share their impact stories was so inspiring.

Proud to have launched and signed our Blueprint for a Regenerative African Fashion Future with the African Fashion Coalition, a manifesto that moves us beyond intention and towards collective action.

Rooted in African knowledge, craftsmanship, circularity, and innovation, this is more than a declaration. It’s a commitment to shaping a regenerative future for fashion, with Africa leading the conversation.

It was also great to reconnect with founders from the Earthshot Prize community and spend time with partners, and industry leaders committed to accelerating systems change.

I was also pleased to pop into The OR Foundation x LSE dialogue, join the Copenhagen Fashion Week x Climate Pledge roundtable and dinner, and other conversations that reinforced the importance of collective action.

Grateful to The Earthshot Prize and Bloomberg Philantropies, our partners, and everyone who contributed to this.

Talkin’ ‘bout a re’wool’ution... 🐑

For those who have never been, let this be the gentle shove you needed towards the Karoo Winter Wool Festival. 🚜

From the moment you embark on your road trip (because trust us, it will be...), the experience begins. 🪡 As you inch closer and closer to the Karoo, the landscapes change and yes, the temperature drops (drastically), but with each passing town, your heart warms a little more – thanks to the abundance of smiles, pancakes, and roosterkoek that fill the belly and soul. 💛

As for the festival – it’s insightful, emotional, honest, immersive, raw, and a beautiful reminder of the remarkable natural fibres woven into this country. 🧶 There’s a reason we’ve featured this incredible wool gathering in print (aka @houseandleisure), twice... 📔

A special congratulations to the @viviers.studio and @hovendesign team for putting together an incredible showcase this year, yet again. ⭐️ You blew our woolly socks off! 🧦

What a privilege it was to sit around a campfire fuelled by wool, a glass of South African red wine in hand, sharing ideas with @jackiemay_sa @adeles_mohair @gerbercogroup and @stephanie.bentum.textiles

Our conversation centred on one of the greatest opportunities facing South Africa’s natural fibre industry: the possibility of decentralising wool processing into the rural communities where the wool is actually produced.

Imagine creating value where the fibre begins its journey. Imagine jobs, skills, entrepreneurship and economic activity flowing back into the towns and farming communities that have sustained our sheep industry for generations.

South Africa grows some of the world’s finest natural fibres. Perhaps the next chapter isn’t simply exporting wool—it’s building thriving rural industries around it.

Sometimes the best ideas don’t emerge from boardrooms.
