Above-the-head exercises (also called overhead exercises) are movements where your arms move or hold weight above your shoulders or head. These exercises are important for athletes, workers, adults, and kids because they improve strength, stability, posture, and total-body coordination.

Common examples include:

💪🏾Overhead press
💪🏼Shoulder press
💪🏿Push press
💪🏻Handstands
💪🏾Overhead carries
💪🏼Pull-ups/chin-ups
💪🏿Snatches and jerks
💪🏻Medicine ball throws
💪🏾Hanging exercises

1. Stronger Shoulders
Overhead movements strengthen the deltoids, rotator cuff muscles, traps, and upper back.

2. Better Shoulder Stability
Your shoulders are the most mobile joints in the body, so they need strong stabilizers.

3. Improved Posture
Many people spend hours looking down at phones or sitting.

4. Core Strength and Total-Body Coordination
Most overhead exercises force the core to stabilize the spine while the arms move.

5. Increased Mobility and Flexibility
Safe overhead motion requires:
Shoulder mobility
Thoracic spine mobility
Hip and core control
Range of motion
Flexibility
Joint health
Movement quality

6. Better Athletic Performance
Many sports involve force moving upward or through the arms overhead.
