Neue Welt is pleased to present My Diary by Atlanta, Georgia-based artist Jackson Markovic, opening Saturday, October 3rd, 5-8 PM.

This exhibition is about consumption and growing up in the seven years from 19 to 26 where nothing really extraordinary happens.

In the Sex and the City episode "The Man, the Myth, the Viagra," Big serenades Carrie with Sinatra’s It Was a Very Good Year, singing the first verse set at age 17. “It was a very good year for small town girls,” or so I’ve heard.

Unfortunately time is the meta-subject of photography, so I made gnarled candle holders that I would actually display in my home.

I hesitate to describe myself as an artist, because lately it feels more like a compulsion than a career.

When I was 19 I dated a 26 year old, for several years actually, and I still find that relationship confusing. Now I am 26 and I drink lots of wine, though lately I’ve been on a martini kick.

I am constantly short on money and have never felt more alone. When Big reaches the end of the verse, Carrie’s voiceover describes the scene as perfect: “it felt like I was in heaven.”

Jackson Markovic makes artwork in Atlanta, Georgia. Recent exhibitions include Raw Through A Straw (Hawkins HQ, Atlanta, GA, 2026), Supernature (Institute 193, Lexington, KY, 2025) and the public project Baroque Sunbursts (Atlanta, GA, 2025-2026).

He received his BFA from Georgia State University (2022) and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture (2026). He is a contributing writer for Burnaway magazine.

My heart is so full. I had one of the best summers of my life, and have made new friends that I will love forever at Skowhegan. I never got to go to summer camp as a kid, and this was the best version of that experience I could ever ask for: to be in community with the most beautiful, talented freaks. Trying to quantify this experience is impossible. I feel so lucky that I got to meet all of these wonderful people. I got to swim and dance every damn day. I worked on ceramics and paintings and made frescos. I started UFO club. I taught a fermentation workshop and made the most delicious black berry soda from berries we picked. We did psychic experiments, drew together, did weird performances, played games. I am so lucky and grateful.

It’s been a few months since the closing of TEMPORARY MONUMENT: ATL/LEX - a pop-up art show @325westmain which brought together artists from Atlanta and Lexington. Held over four weekends in April and May of 2026, the final day of the show featured an incredibly moving performance by Lexington’s own @mwebb3ncov This lovely video was filmed and edited by @_pkwesley_ with additional camera by @incahootsky .The show was organized by @temporaryartcenter in collaboration with @2ndstory.art and @ukartmuseum , along with @katherinestpaul and @ddmmfreed, featured at the beautiful space @325westmain, and strongly supported by the wonderful @visitlex . Big up to everyone who came out to support this project and to the wonderfully kind artists who truly made it happen:
