Congrats to my friend @jaclahavvvv and his new mural @twowrasslincats which shares a brief history of East Haddam, Connecticut. He is one of the coolest cats I know and the mural is a playful way to introduce history to kids and adults alike. 🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛🐱I hadn’t visited the cafe before and it’s great to see a forward thinking venue in an unexpected area. I will definitely make it a cycling destination!

Born Jerome Silberman in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Gene Wilder became a legend in entertainment with memorable performances on stage and screen. He first explored acting while attending Washington High School. From Broadway to beloved films like "The Producers," "Young Frankenstein," and "Blazing Saddles," his unique blend of humor and heart made him one of Hollywood’s most cherished performers

Wilder also captured audiences worldwide as Willy Wonka in "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" (1971). His whimsical, unpredictable portrayal blended charm, humor, and dramatic depth, helping the film become a beloved classic across generations.

Gene Wilder's portrait is featured in JMM's special exhibit "48 Jews: Layers of Identity" on display through September 6. You don't want to miss it! Plan your visit using the link in our bio!

Arthur Miller is among the most celebrated American playwrights of the 20th century. Miller rose to prominence on Broadway with "All My Sons" (1947), followed by "Death of a Salesman" (1949), which won the Pulitzer Prize, and "The Crucible" (1953), an allegory of McCarthy-era persecution.

In 1956, he married Marilyn Monroe, who converted to Judaism before their marriage ended in 1961. Later, in a new introduction to his novel "Focus" (1948), Miller reflected on evolving forms of antisemitism in America following the founding of Israel, reaffirming his enduring engagement with Jewish identity and experience.

You can view Arthur Miller's portrait in JMM's special exhibit, 48 Jews: Layers of Identity on display through September 6, 2026.

Cheers to 10 years at @florencegriswoldmuseum 🥂The actual anniversary was in late May, but our summer has been so full, I didn’t have a chance to assemble this post until now. I loved making these collages to remember the many projects, colleagues, and artists I’ve had the privilege of spending time with—thank you!!! It really flies when we’re having fun 🍾

It has become more widely known that Elvis Presley had Jewish heritage on his mother’s side—his maternal great-great-grandmother, born in Mississippi, likely descended from immigrants from Lithuania. Because Jewish heritage traditionally follows the maternal line, some consider Elvis to have been Jewish.

That connection was reflected in his life in meaningful ways. After his mother’s death, Elvis helped design her headstone, which features both a Star of David and a Christian cross. He was also known to wear a Chai necklace alongside a cross, reflecting the blend of Jewish and Christian influences in his life.

While his distinctive voice, and charismatic stage presence earned him the title “King of Rock and Roll,” Elvis’s story also reveals a fascinating and lesser-known connection to Jewish heritage.

You can view Elvis Presley's portrait in 48 Jews: Layers of Identity, on display at Jewish Museum Milwaukee. Learn more by clicking the link in our bio!

Happy National Rock and Roll Day! 🎸

Few artists have shaped music and culture like Bob Dylan. Dylan was born Robert Zimmerman in Duluth, Minnesota. Deeply inspired by American folk music, the Beat Generation, and modernist poetry, Dylan moved to New York City in 1961 and quickly became the voice of his generation. Songs like "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Highway 61 Revisited" became defining works of the 1960s, helping redefine the landscape of rock music and inspiring generations of artists.

Dylan's portrait is featured in "48 Jews: Layers of Identity" currently on display at JMM. Learn more here by clicking the link in our bio!

Happy Birthday, Marc Chagall! 🎉

Born in Vitebsk (now Belarus) into a poor Jewish family, Chagall became one of the most celebrated Jewish artists of the 20th century. Chagall’s art blends dreamlike imagery with Jewish heritage, personal experience, and Eastern European folk traditions, often inspired by shtetl life in the Pale of Settlement.

Celebrate Chagall's birthday by visiting JMM where you can view "The Prophet Jeremiah" tapestry and our special exhibit, "48 Jews: Layers of Identity" which features a painted portrait of Chagall by artist Jac Lahav!
