Big ice, bigger memories! ⛸️✨

RBMERS had the privilege of hitting the ice at the KeyBank Center alongside our friends at the Student Veteran Association! We’re so grateful for this partnership and for everyone who came out to share the experience.

Thank you to the SVA for making this happen—here’s to many more joint events ahead! 🤝🏒

UB Nursing and the Erie County Department of Health were nationally recognized this summer for their mobile vaccination (M-Vax) initiative as recipients of the Model and Promising Practices Award from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). The M-Vax program's goal is to reduce the high number of school exclusions by increasing the proportion of Buffalo Public School students who are current on required vaccinations.

Gail Burstein, Erie County Health Commissioner and clinical professor in the Department of Pediatrics in UB's Jacob School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences: "Our partnership with Buffalo Public Schools and the University at Buffalo School of Nursing is delivering immediate and long-lasting benefits. Our project contributed to making sure hundreds of students could remain in school, and is reducing the risk of communicable disease spread within our schools and our community." 🎉 Grant Award Announcement! 🎉

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Amanda Ziegler of the Primary Care Research Institute on receiving a 2026 American Diabetes Association Innovative Research for Enhanced Diabetes Prevention and Care in Primary Care Settings Grant.

This funding will support the project, “Translating and Testing an Evidence-Based, AI-Powered Mobile Health Care Model Integration into Clinical Practice for Adolescent Weight Management and Diabetes Prevention.”

The project aims to address adolescent obesity and diabetes risk by adapting a mobile health app designed to support healthy lifestyle changes. By integrating innovative digital health tools into primary care, the research team hopes to expand access to personalized, patient-centered approaches to weight management and chronic disease prevention.

This exciting work reflects a commitment to improving health outcomes for adolescents and advancing innovative solutions that make healthy lifestyle support more accessible for young people and their families.

👏 Congratulations to Dr. Amanda Ziegler and the entire research team on this outstanding achievement and their continued dedication to improving the health of our communities.

We were so pleased to bring our medical student community together for a special joint GBM with AMA/MSSNY! 🩺💙

A huge thank you to our incredible speakers and mentors, Dr. Nancy Nielsen, MD, PhD, MACP and Dr. Gale R. Burstein, MD, MPH, for joining us and sharing their wisdom, experiences, and perspectives with our students.

We feel incredibly lucky to learn from such inspiring physicians and leaders right here in our community. We’re also grateful to be surrounded by such curious, passionate, and engaged medical students who continue to ask thoughtful questions and strive to make a difference in medicine.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our meeting so meaningful!

It was gratifying to see so many community members and experts — including our #UBSSW faculty, students and alumni — come together to facilitate meaningful dialogue, strengthen collaboration and foster connections that will drive change.

Thank you to all who spoke and participated, including Dean Keith A. Alford; former faculty member Patricia Logan-Greene; Adrienne Garr, MSW ’17, director of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention for the City of Buffalo; Elena Miller, MSW ’25, executive director of the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Erie County; MSW student Willie Griffin, lead hospital responder with @buffalo.snug716; and @ubssw_gsa leaders Fiona Andrews and Tom Griffin.
