Two parking lots. Nearly a decade of work. 305 affordable homes.
When Durham County looked at two underused parking lots on East Main Street, they saw an opportunity, and turning it into reality required the right partnership. Since 2017, the UNC School of Government's Development Finance Initiative has worked alongside Durham County to tackle one of the region's most pressing challenges: keeping housing affordable in a rapidly growing city.

Honored to be with so many friends and community leaders to celebrate the 91st Founders Day of the @dcabpinc. Speakers reflected on the legacy of the organization, awarded longtime community advocate for their service, and gave scholarships to outstanding students. Most crucial was the call-to-action for all of us to fight back AGAINST the attacks on Black Americans and FOR a future (“it’s almost Sunday…”) with justice, fairness, and economic self-determination.

I was glad to join other elected officials and community leaders in welcoming our @nc_governor to the @durhamfarmersmarket to celebrate the SUN Bucks EBT program, which the governor successfully lobbied to get into the recently past state budget. SUN Bucks makes money available for families over the summer when food insecurity can be at its highest for kids.

We also celebrated National #FarmersMarketWeek, as programs like these also help support our farmers.

THIS is what community looks like! 💚💛🎒🙌🏾

What an incredible day at Greater Emmanuel Temple of Grace! Our 15th Annual Back to School Community Day brought together nearly 200 children and their families for school supplies, free food, haircuts, games, community resources, fellowship and plenty of smiles—and every school supply bag was given away! 🙌🏾

For 15 years, God has blessed GETG to serve the community where He planted us, and today reminded us why we keep doing the work. Thank you to Pastor Marion Wright, Jr. and First Lady LaNika Wright, our GETG family, sponsors, vendors, partners and volunteers who helped make it all possible.

One God. One Community. One Mission.
Still Standing. Still Building. Still Serving. 💚 #WeAreGETG #BackToSchool #CommunityDay #DurhamNC

15 YEARS OF SERVICE. ONE GOD. ONE COMMUNITY. ONE MISSION. 💚💛

To God be the glory for an incredible 15th Annual Back to School Community Day at Greater Emmanuel Temple of Grace! Nearly 200 children and their families joined us today, and we are blessed to say that every school supply bag was given away and all of the food was served! 🎒🍎🙌🏾

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our Senior Pastor, District Elder Marion Wright, Jr., MD, and First Lady LaNika Wright, for their leadership and continued commitment to serving our community; to our amazing GETG members who donated supplies, gave financially, prepared, volunteered and worked tirelessly to make today possible; and to each of our sponsors, vendors, elected officials, community organizations and partners who joined hands with us to serve East Durham.

From school supplies and teacher care packages to free haircuts, food, games, community resources and fellowship, today was a beautiful reminder of what can happen when the Church and community work together. ❤️

For 15 years, God has blessed us to serve the community through this event where He planted us for over 45 years, and we’re not finished yet.

Still Standing. Still Building. Still Serving.

Thank you, Durham, for allowing us to serve you! 🙏🏾 #WeAreGETG #BackToSchool #CommunityDay

What a start to the season! More than 1,300 people showed up during our opening month.

That’s 1,300 moments of connection.
1,300 times someone chose to support a local farmer or maker.
1,300 reminders that this is more than a market.

We’re grateful. And we’re just getting started so let’s keep it going!

Powered by people. Fed by farmers.

It means a lot to me that our current and former elected officials are endorsing my candidacy for Durham County Board of Education. They know what it means to govern here in Durham and what our public schools need to thrive.
