Photographers, take a guess: how many photos do you think all Getty photographers combined took during the Olympics?

Here’s a quick look at the numbers:

📸 6,000,000+ total photos taken over the course of the entire Olympics
📸 10,000+ daily photo uploads
📸 120 photographers, editors, and operations staff on the ground

The carousel photos above are just a handful of some of the absolutely stunning photos captured by Getty photographers in Milan this past month, and we were super fascinated about the entire process that goes behind organizing the photography behind the world’s biggest event.

We had one of our fantastic 42West blog writers, Jacqueline Tobin @jacqueline.tobin, sit down with Getty Images’ VP of Global Sports, Michael Heiman, for a behind-the-scenes look at how they coordinate 100+ photographers and thousands and thousands of photos daily.

In the article, they cover the whole operation, including all the different roles and responsibilities everyone has, what kind of cameras they used for certain shots, how their editing process works, and a lot more.

It’s a super fascinating look into the behind-the-scenes of everything Getty Images has to do during the Olympics, so if you’re a photography lover like us, we think you’ll find it really interesting!
