Bootstrapping: A Day In The Life 🤣

Spent the day working alongside our web developer tightening up a few important pieces of the site. The improvements are already making a difference.

We upgraded the checkout experience from a basic, standalone page to one that fully mirrors the rest of the site, complete with header and footer navigation. That means you can continue browsing and shopping without feeling like you’ve hit a dead end.

We also added a new cart experience. When you click the cart icon in the top right and a cart box opens instantly, allowing you to adjust quantities, close it out, or head straight to checkout. All without leaving the page! Faster, cleaner, and much more intuitive.

On top of that, we fixed a major payment processor issue and refreshed the blog layout to make it easier to read and cleaner overall.

We also ran a full site health check, and the results were encouraging:
• Best Practices and SEO both scored 100 (mobile & desktop)
• Accessibility scored 95 mobile / 94 desktop
• Performance (load times, contentful paint, speed index) still has room to improve. I’m currently converting all JPGs to WebP images to help boost load speed and overall performance

Overall, the site is really getting dialed in. Today was all about improving the user experience, and I’m excited about where things are headed!!!

If you haven’t visited the site in a bit, now’s a great time to take another look and let me know what you think.

While you are there, grab the card featured in this post for your beloved! ...and to say thank you, please use code: THANKYOU50

🎄✨ Overwatch Cards is honored to support the 3rd Annual Christmas Cards for Veterans program by printing and delivering over 1,100 cards this year—far exceeding last year’s total of 300!

We’re spreading holiday cheer to Veterans in Assisted Living, Memory Care, Nursing Homes, VA Homes, VA Rehab facilities, and more. 🎁

Demand is higher than ever and we exceeded the initial print run of this years card!!! So we’ve tapped into our reserves, adding” Christmas Wish” by Artist Jaime Munt and “What A Night” by InvaderGirl!

From small beginnings in our first program year—to now reaching heroes across Missouri, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Illinois, and even a battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, this mission grows stronger each year.

Thank you Greg, Wilmarie, Anita, Roo, Jaime, InvaderGirl and everyone who supports our mission of honoring those who served and who continue to serve this GREAT CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC. Together, we’re making the season brighter for those who’ve given so much.

Busy building the new studio!
One wall down, 5 more to go!

When you are Bootstrapping a small business... even the tiniest step is HUGE! Money is tight, so each move forward is calculated and planned.

Today, I finished the first wall. Added corrugated galvanized steel, knotty pine nickel gap shiplap, and then added some artwork!

It is starting to feel like a usable, creative space! This is very much needed for my spirit, my sanity, and to keep all things moving forward.

It is a small WIN ~ but it is a WIN just the same!

As mentioned in previous posts, there are positive things happening and a lot more planned!
Stay tuned!

New workspace photo dump

Finally sarted construction on the new work space! This was a very productive weekend framing new walls, adding temporary shelves for the cards, setup the design computer, and ran temporary power to it.

This has been a LONG TIME coming!

Bootstrapping a startup business has it ups and downs. This weekend was all ups!!!

In the coming days, I will get the last bracing on the wall and order more lumber. The plan is to add a barn door, then frame out the rest of the room, insulate (for temp control and sound), run electric on dedicated breakers, and build permanent shelving.

Will finish the walls by adding rustic shiplap, floating shelves, display cases, and a large monitor. Then, I will hang all the artwork, as well as add a shipping station, a workspace for other equipment, and a photography studio. (Flooring, sound proofing the ceiling, and a podcast studio will come later.)

The goal is to prioritize need before wants.
*if you know me, THIS IS NOT EASY!!! 🤣🤣🤣

One of the TOP PROJECTS on the Trestle board is a new wholesale website for retail clients. This also happens to be one of the biggest expenses! Got a designer in mind who is a close friend who just so happens to be Emmy Nominated for his work on The Walking Dead! (Going to work a lot of overtime to bring this to life!)

While it feels like it has taken forever to get wind under our wings, it is finally coming together! As a close friend told me... "it is an overnight sensation 4 years in the making! ~Just pray it doesn't take 4 more!!!"

THANK YOU all for standing beside me while we inch this small business forward to do GREAT THINGS!!!

Our mission is to help as many Veterans and First Responders as we can thru philanthropic support of some amazing organizations!

So much more to come!

Again, THANK YOU!!!

I am in ❤️ with our Flag and all it represents.

To me, there is no greater fortune than to live under these colors. We owe a HUGE debt of gratitude to those who fought and died to protect this Constitutional Republic.

This Flag represents their commitment, their sacrifice, and their Honor. ~Plus so much more!!!

To those who served,
To those who serve,
To those who paid the ultimate price for our #freedom ....THANK YOU!

Thank you @jaimemunt and @_invadergirl_ for your patience, talent, and craft!!!
More to come!

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do:: Ephesians 2.1‭-‬10:: NIV84:: #soakintheSon #womanintheWord #studyyourBibledaily #readyourBible #itisagift #Biblejournalingcommunity #lantana #GodisLife #journalingBiblecommunity #naturephotography #photographyofNorthCarolina #GodisEverything #worshiptheCreatornotHiscreation

For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God Himself and not by human hands. We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies. While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. God Himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee He has given us His Holy Spirit. So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at Home with the Lord. For we live by believing and not by seeing. Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at Home with the Lord. So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please Him. For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body:: II Corinthians 5.1-10:: NLT:: #soakintheSon #womanintheWord #studyyourBibledaily #readyourBible #itisagift #Biblejournalingcommunity #journalingBiblecommunity #naturephotography #crepemyrtle #photographyofNorthCarolina #crepemyrtleflowers #worshiptheCreatornotHiscreation
