CONVERSATIONS (a fusion of spirit )
Creating a dialogue between the fibres of my two countries Fiji (Masi) and New Zealand (Muka)
Pod Gallery
29th July – 22nd August
Meet the Artist- Sat 8th August 10-4
@jainerubine
In this body of work I explore the relationship between these two fibres, Masi and Muka, learning to understand the language they create together. Sometimes poetry, sometimes song, always story. Each holds strong spirit. Each has a voice. Each allows the other to be heard.
These works are conversations between countries, cultures, materials and memory - a fusion of spirit woven through fibre, place and time.
I invite you to listen with your eyes.

✨ You’re warmly invited to celebrate the opening of two incredible new exhibitions at @kumeuarts! 🤩
We’re thrilled to be showcasing the ‘precious & tactile’ works of @jainerubine in the Pod Gallery and ‘vibrant and energetic’ work of @munro.leigh across our Main and Pip Galleries.
Come along, meet the artists, hear the stories behind their work, and enjoy a warm chai or a chilled glass of wine. 🍷☕ #nzartists #nzgallery #artnz #auckland #kumeu

Throwback to October last year when the artist group: Lee Albert, Julie Byers, Janet Besançon, Carol Clarkson & Jaine Rubine exhibited their works in the ‘Walking Together: from Heart to Heart’ exhibition. This exhibition was a response to the Uluru Statement from the Heart to ‘walk together for a better future.’

It was also the nucleus that would inspire the inception of Sonder Arts – a platform for early-mid career artists who are ethically and sustainably minded, to showcase their art and the message that inspires it. 🌿

Am excited that our exhibition Walking Together - Heart to Heart is opening in Coffs Harbour on 2 September at the Art Factory. The exhibition takes up the invitation given in the Uluṟu Statement From the Heart and has painting, sculpture and mixed media works that honour Country, celebrate reconciliation and examine the legacy of colonisation. It’s sure to spark a conversation #walkingtogether #coffsharbour #midnorthcoast #ulurustatementfromtheheart #ulurustatement #artfactorycoffsharbour

Walking Together – Voice, Treaty Truth is a group exhibition of paintings, sculpture and mixed media works. It offers a very personal response to the Uluru Statement from The Heart and its three elements – Voice, Treaty and Truth.
As a group of non-Indigenous female artists living on unceded Gumbaynggirr and Dunghutti Country we accept the gracious invitation given us by First peoples - to walk together for a better future.
