OBC & Wild Maine sponsored rider @jakeinger just set the Fastest Known Time (FKT) across the VTXL!

In just 20 hours and 6 minutes, Jake accomplished something that takes most riders 4–5 days.

🚲 301 miles across Vermont
⛰️ 33,000 feet of climbing
🪨 95% gravel and off-road
🍟 20,000 calories burned
🫩 Zero sleep, with just 26 minutes off the bike to grab food and drinks
🐕 Hardest part: getting chased by dozens of dogs
🍻 Best part: watching the sun come up and cracking a Tubular after the ride

Jake is an incredibly talented and gritty rider, and a genuinely great guy. This is an absolutely incredible accomplishment, and we’re stoked to support him and everything he does on a bike.

Grateful to my old friend @skiingrogge, the first person to notice and encourage my “career” in the ski industry as a writer more than 15 years ago, to request and feature a story in @mountaingazette about our little project at @gpnemba to build a world-class mountain bike community here in the Greater Portland area with our many partners. After business school, @iamallieandrews and I were debating whether we would stay in Boston or come back to Maine. Among the decisive factors was that, after years of enjoying amazing outdoor communities and riding in the West, we now have an opportunity in Maine, where all the trends come last, to build something similar ourselves. There’s a lot of space here to pick up the ball and do the hard work to create something, and that was really enticing at a point where I was becoming mature enough to realize the chance in front of me to transition from being a spectator and consumer to a driver. We don’t have thousands of feet of elevation by the coast, but just about every other ingredient you could ask for: lots of preserved open space, good terrain, hundreds of miles of existing trails, willing partners and land managers, and a huge bike community with shops, volunteers and donors all willing to invest in building something special together. I spelt this out in a more forceful screed of run on sentences in the piece, accompanied by some stellar pics from one of our real local talents @jwalter1337. We will build this damn thing — we already are. Great to share the pages with Mike and other pals like @timfater1. I highly recommend a subscription to MG. It’s about 48” by 18” and a great biannual delivery to your coffee table!
