I’m excited to announce that my group The Dream Project is performing at The Wine Sellers in Macomb, IL on Saturday, October 24 from 5:30-7:30pm! This will feature the very first Dream Project formation that inspired me in the first place! These guys are some of the best musicians I’ve ever had the pleasure to perform with. I’ve been wanting to get these guys back together for quite sometime and with the recent announcements of reuniting old colleagues from the university we came together, let’s extend the reunion even further. The Wine Sellers is not only a great venue, but holds as the birthplace of Dream Project’s first performances. As usual, we got original compositions and arrangements of video game music. Enjoy a night of drinks, music, and fun! We hope to see you there in October! Personnel:
Jacob Green, Sax 🎷
Brandon Carranza and Cody Clair, @brandon_c_2502 @clair.cody85336 Trombone 🪊
Richie Bliesener, @richiebliesener Piano 🎹
Logan Mitchell, @bogan__mitchell Bass 🎸
Jahvian Barrett, @ras.himselff Drums 🥁

This semester, I had the wonderful honor of being a part of the legendary University of Illinois Repertory Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Jim E. Pugh.

Instead of being a big band, the instrumentation was based on the Dave Pell Octet. Featuring the music and works of the great tenor saxophonist, Dave Pell and composer John Williams, yes, the Johnny Williams before Star Wars days. Playing drum set in this awesome octet, is not like playing in a big band. Dave Pell's band is different compared to the Buddy Rich, or Woody Herman bands. This is easily the most challenging ensemble of my career.

After high school and into my undergrad years, me and my previous drum set teacher Nate Pusateri would listen to the music of Steely Dan and watch one of our favorite movies, Joel and Ethan Coen's The Big Lebowski for my own inspiration and entertainment. Coming to the UIUC was a huge treat for me when I got to the studio my Freshman year. As a performing trombonist, close to 30 years, to this day, Jim Pugh has been playing with Steely Dan and has exposed me to all of his stories and experiences working with the great Donald Fagen and Keith Carlock. I also recently found out he was in the orchestra for the Joel and Ethan Coen movie the Big Lebowski. Finding out that I get to work with Jim Pugh was one of the most outrageous news ever.

Working in this breathtaking, patient, challenging, welcoming, and entertaining ensemble was the only thing that kept me going throughout this dangerous semester. I feel very fortunate to be working with a Steely Dan/Coen Bros Film Orchestra musician that has challenged me, heavily inspired me, believed a lot in me, and has had a strong sense of compassion for me. I also feel very fortunate to be a part of a community of super hardworking, eager, cheerful musicians who made this milestone of 18 months come true. Never have I ever been anxious, doubtful, worried, or angry, throughout the 50 total times I've met and played such difficult music with this ensemble in rehearsals and concerts. This octet, plus director, has been a very delightful group to be with.

This group will be heavily missed. GO REMO. #jimandfriends #thankyoujesus
