POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In 2017 i was a teen and a huuuge fan of Tessa Violet (@tessaviolet) and I remixed one of her songs, Just Right. Then a Geometry Dash creator named Unzor used the remix in his level called Sunshine and the level got staggeringly popular sitting at 45m plays as of now. The level is in the top 50 most downloaded Geometry Dash levels ever and the song became a hit on various TikTok clips and memes — there is even a clip of IShowSpeed singing Just Right!

All of this traffic eventually reached Tessa Violet and she messaged me if we could officially release the song and of course I said yes!!! It's called Sunshine (Just Right) on Spotify and I'm so happy!!

As a formerly active GD player I was aware of Sunshine's download count and such, but I wasn't aware of the immense popularity of the remix until my boyfriend, who never played Geometry Dash before, started getting TikToks about Sunshine and I was like wait that's my remix!

All of this has led me down an emotionally puzzling rollercoaster and it's hard to put it into words how much this all means to me. Sunshine was always something I just brushed off to the side and I completely ignored its popularity. I was ECSTATIC when I made the remix but because I was just a frantic fangirling teen back then I always thought I was a bit cringe and I was ashamed of myself. When the popularity arrived my insecurities became truths and I thought everyone agreed with my thoughts.

But since the release my eyes have blown wide open and I realised Sunshine is popular cus everybody LOVES the song! Like the remix has legitimately changed lives and I've gone through so many comments and realised just how much of an impact my silly little remix has had on people. How on earth couldn't I see this sooner?! All I ever cared about was sharing kindness with my songs and in the blink of an eye my dreams became true

And that paired with the fact that Tessa Violet's music and vlogs helped me get through my mostly troubled teenage years. I tear up every time I see that she is on my Spotify page. Now how cool is that, getting noticed by your childhood hero?

Eternally grateful to Unzor and Tessa Violet for changing my life

xoxo,
Jakki

These works started off as a bit of an accident. I was making a lot of remixes back in the days and found it quite boring to just use the original cover art. Instead I started to trace the photos of the original artists and turn them into cartoonish artworks. Over time this kinda got out of hand and nowadays it's about taking a photo and turning it into a painting that blurs the lines between impressionism and realism.

When making my beloved album, Colours, I got to design 11 of these in total. It was plenty enough to discover that the works are a little more meaningful than just simple cover arts — they were a way to express my deeply suppressed appreciation to femininity and the awe towards how diverse it can be. I wasn't exactly allowed to be feminine per se — so it was only a matter of time until what I was leaked through other means of expression.

Art was the key factor that made me find myself and I'm still a little in shock at how long I've been doing this without actually knowing the meaning behind it all. Mind works in mysterious ways and whatever you supress will eventually come out in such ways you wouldnt even expect.

And that's just wonderful.

(Obligatory disclaimer: much like most of my works, the og photo is from Pexels and modifications like this are allowed in the license xoxo)
