Porter's Lodge

Aside from the music business, I've been working with @blok_build over the past couple years documenting their modular process and development. I was fortunate enough to capture this project 'Porter's Lodge' from beginning to end.

I'd like to share some stills of this stunning building designed by @jakstudiolondon and situated in a beautiful estate, surrounded by both mid century and Georgian apartments!

“Everything came together when we discovered BlokBuild…”

…is exactly what we love to hear from architects.

Here’s what @jakstudiolondon said about working with us on their Porter's Lodge project:

“Due to a lengthy planning and neighbourhood consultation process, the building needed to be delivered with great sensitivity in terms of design, schedule, and construction.

We knew we wanted a prefabricated system that could be erected quickly, but couldn’t find the right product and specialist subcontractor to meet the challenge.

BlokBuild’s collaborative and detail-driven approach ensured the project was delivered seamlessly and to an exceptionally high standard. We cannot recommend them highly enough and will undoubtedly work with them again.”

📣 💡Architects, DM us or get in touch at info@blokbuild.com to see what we can do for your projects!

On Porter’s Lodge, we worked closely with architects @jakstudiolondon to harness our digital approach to reduce cost, enhance buildability and lower carbon across the whole scheme.

The loadbearing capacity of our floor cassettes allowed us to reduce the steel in the floor grillage, and we were able to eliminate the steel of the existing design entirely from the roof and large glazed opening.

We don’t just target the big ticket structural items, but the small wins too.

We replaced hardwood columns with lightweight laminated ply with concealed slots for bespoke bracketry, and designed service penetrations into our digital model to make the M&E phase more efficient.

One of the most satisfying parts of building a network of partners? Introducing highly skilled professionals to a new way of working.

@jakstudiolondon and Bloomsbury Construction Group have been ideal partners on the recently completed Porter’s Lodge in Regent’s Park.

Chris Green, commercial director at BCG, admits to being a “little skeptical about using a prefabricated cassette system due to a misconception that the process would be too design-heavy and wouldn’t allow speed to market on a tight program.”

Thankfully, he was converted:

“I have to say we were completely wrong. The design process was collaborative and very efficient, with the BlokBuild team always on hand for technical support.

The installation period was impressive. They were finished and signed off within days. I would recommend BlokBuild to any industry stakeholder and look forward to the next opportunity to collaborate.”

Big thanks to BCG and architects @jakstudiolondon for a great project together.

@jakstudiolondon chose the @blok_build system for its capacity to create bespoke geometries in short timeframes on restricted access sites.

Low-impact, speed and precision were the essential criteria for delivering Porter’s Lodge on a site accessed through a single lane, barrier-operated roadway next to London’s Regent’s Park.

The heptagonal superstructure has a footprint of 35sm2 and was assembled in less than a week by a team of four installers using a minimal toolkit of cordless drills, hand mallets and hand-powered genie lifts.

This week we’re on-site in London installing Porter’s Lodge, a project developed in collaboration with architects @jakstudiolondon and @bloomsburyconstruction.

Our digital production model, often referred to as a digital clone, serves as a central core containing all manufacturing and engineering information, facilitating seamless coordination with other trades.

Watch the video for a short tour.
