MOVE YOUR BODY
CREATE ORIGINAL ART
AND DISCOVER WHAT THE FOREST HAS TO TEACH US.

🪾What if the forest has something to teach us about how to live together?

Join Spaces of Fontana on October 24 from 2–4 PM at @woodhavenatx for our **ROOTED Community Workshop** 🌳

This is an immersive afternoon connecting community, art, movement, and the nature of trees.

And before you think, 🤔 “But wait... I’m not a dancer or an artist!” 🧑‍🎨

👌🏼Perfect. This is for you.

No previous dance or art experience is necessary.

Together, we’ll:
🌳 Ground ourselves through nature meditation + gentle movement
💫 Explore elemental embodiment and connection
🎨 Create tactile tree-inspired collage with visual artist Brenda Petro
✍️ Weave memories into collaborative poetry
🌱 Learn about caring for our local tree canopy with TreeFolks

Led by choreographer Evelyn Joy Hoelscher @evelyn_joy , visual artist Brenda Petro, Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist Barbara Jo, and featuring tree ecology resources from @treefolks

And there’s a bigger story growing underneath it all...

🌱 This workshop is the beginning of **ROOTED**, a grant-funded immersive dance experience coming March 4-6, 2027 @ghostpeppergallery . The stories, words, movement, and artwork we create together will help shape the final work.

Come help us grow something beautiful from the roots up.

📍 Wood Haven ATX Somatic Arts & Training Center

Semester 3, Week 4

This week has been punctuated by many small moments of joy, most of them involving carbohydrates.

J and I went out for a date at Potato Shack, which, as the name suggests, is a local haunt that specializes in all things spud. We snacked on French Fries and Margaritas, musing about the audience attendance at WWE and related events — performance entertainment at its most exaggerated with a ticket price to match.

That night, I was wired. I couldn’t sleep and found myself bouncing around the house.
Usually, Jacob is up late. Usually, I am not. So, we were able to enjoy a rare late night hang sponsored by minor bouts of mania and word games. Pro tip - if you wait to start the daily Wordle until 11:58 PM, by the time you finish, it will be midnight and there will be a new word to uncover. Deliriously. With high fives. That may or may not miss. Whoops.

Later in the weekend, we gathered with a group of friends for an animated lunch at Olive Garden. We laughed raucously about our childhoods, EZ bake ovens, strange habits, and rock tumblers, and grieved the passing of recent legislation in our state that is impacting performing artists. As is essential with any trip to Olive Garden, we ate breadsticks … lots and lots of breadsticks. We also may or may not have been slightly kicked out for getting too loud. It was the mutual love of rock tumblers that did it .

By far, the most notable happening of the week was rediscovering a deep, passionate love of Honey Nut Cheerios. Guys, I ADORE cereal. Don’t get me wrong, eating like a responsible adult is fine and all, but nothing compares to sitting down in a rocking chair, spelunking through 50 pages of theory on the nature of experience, and stuffing your face with cereal like a 6 year old.

Bread sparks joy.
