What we read reflects back to us as artists. Here’s what we have been reading lately in Concrete01 😌

KK’s book: are we human by Beatriz Colomina & Mark Wigley

What makes us human, Homo sapiens.. I looked at the things that are not human and realized that things surrounding us are what makes us who we are.

Annie’s book: Hanabi by Rinko Kawauchi

Depiction of fire as a form of celebration, is quite a beautiful rendition in this book.

Philip’s book: Bekiński 1

His dreamlike atmospheres, organic dystopias and maximalist detail, reflects the type of ornate and absurd art style I want to pursue.

James’s book: The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera

First book I’ve ever read of my own accord, showed the intertwined relationship of philosophy and psychology as the fanatical mind, while your actions are a place of realness.

Eli’s book: A Dictionary of Angels by Gustav Davidson

I refer to the sublime language that defines angels as starting points for my calligraphy. It’s the magic of writing reflected in the range of spells, prayers and conjurations.

Harry’s book: Point and Line to Plane by Kandinsky

The fluidity of each stroke of paint and ink that has such intentionality is such inspirational observation, especially for how methodical he is.

Kelly’s book: Metaphors we live by by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson

As a person who speaks 3 languages, metaphors exists in all 3 but perception of everyday life changes depending on culture. Discovering this principle helped me flesh out my emotions and thoughts.
