James Chance 1953-2024, RIP 🎷Admin: @stupefaction & @theoreticalmovement
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I found a folder with dozens of old HAUNTED HOP posters from across the years dating back to the first one at TONIC in 2006 (the last in the set) on to GLASSLANDS, SECRET PROJECT ROBOT, BROOKLYN BOWL, KNOCKDOWN plus a couple of out of town HOPS! Some years I put on/DJ-ex many as seven Halloween parties in a week around nyc and globally! These days preparing for my Quixotically overstuffed Halloween party is so time-intensive that I only do an NYC edition! While I’m exhausting just looking through all of these, it also brings back two decades worth of warm fuzzy memories…

These are a few of my favorites from the knockdown prehistory. I made most of ‘em myself except:

# 1: excellent illustration by the much missed Mississippi fine artiste @nicevibrato
# 7: from Chicago - I think is by the brilliant comedian/performance artist @sarahsquirm
#8: from Austin by the prolific and talented @bennyfromtexas
#9: by awesomely colorful fuzz banana artist and musician @gregorystovetop

Finished product part 1.

Front and rear pages combined in first image so the pages fit in landscape without getting cropped. Gotta love Instagram's lack of photo cropping options.

I only made 100 of these. The majority are being sent to James' family to hand out to attendees of James' celebration of life on September 1st, at Gman Tavern in Chicago.

The gofund me page has the address and rsvp info.

The remaining physical copies will be reserved for a list of collaborators/friends that helped out.

While I realistically can't commit to printing/shipping/selling 300 like I originally hoped, I will be doing a high resolution scan of the whole thing, including some additional pages I had to cut, and making it available as a free download

RIP James

It's finally done. I'm still really bummed that James didn't get to see this, but it's done.

This zine (a few snaps from the maquette are pictured) was originally intended to be a fundraiser to help with James' medical expenses. Sadly, it's now a memorial piece. It details James' life in music through photos and various pieces of ephemera starting in the early 70's through to his final tour in 2019.

It turns out I misread David's update. He hasn't closed the donations yet, but said he will soon. So, this may end up being used for its original purpose which is now essentially a gift for your donation. It's looking like 200 copies, and they will be $15 shipped for domestic or $25-30 shipped for international.

NOTE: I will be doing all of this outside the Go Fund Me. I'll announce where/how you can order one once I get everything sorted out. I will donate any and all profits after shipping to James' Go Fund Me.

First things first, I have list of photographers that I need to get in touch with as their images are being used here. I know it's a zine and who really asks for permission when making a DIY zine? I know it isn't exactly punk, but I don't want any trouble. Even though I'm not taking any profit for myself, I still need to ask these fine people if they don't mind donating their work for this.

If all goes well, I should be printing the first batch sometime next week!
