Best summer ever by the wonderful company of @springawakening.nyc , of whom there are so many; instagram would not let me tag them all. Still, a special shout-out to @michael_manasseh

When i first started writing the caption, i told myself this wouldn’t be a sappy post, but as I kept looking over these photos to tag people, i realized it had to be. I’d been wanting to do Spring Awakening for 4 years (during which I actually did perform it once) and I had been wanting to do SASA, as we’ve so lovingly begun to call it, for about 2. Even for a relatively “small” show, everything was a challenge, but over the past week since we’ve closed - I keep telling people I would do it again, and again, and again. I consider the start of SASA the day I met Mikey, which was almost a year exactly from opening night (August 14th). There were many late night phone calls on how to get the rights, who we want to include on the creative team, casting discussions, and if we’re sure that we want to lock in the longest performance run with the shortest run way to opening night from all the venue availabilities we got. And then June 14th hit, and the show burst open. The talent that oozed out of everyone was so incredible - but what I will always carry with me, is how easy it was to become best friends - it’s like the first thing I tell everyone. Sure, the late night ice cream and pranks on Craig helped, but it felt like everyone wore their heart on their sleeve. Idk if we happened to cast the nicest brown kids in NYC (and Cincinnati) or there was just this implicit trust in a room full of desi people, but I could feel the love and joy all the time.

This experience has been singular. To experience being in a room full of south asian theater artists is a gift 🧡🧡 SASA FOREVER
