🇿🇦🏉🇳🇿☺️ Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be at this weekend’s historic Springboks / All Blacks game.

And then I went on safari with @thisteeks. 🇳🇿 See previous post. 🐘🐾🦒✨

On day two, his lovely manager Julia told me I was going to the game with him.

Teeks had invited three guests - me, Wandile and Dawn - all Springbok supporters.

The greatest rivalries on Earth don’t have to divide us. Sometimes they bind us.

I was born and raised in Africa, but Aotearoa New Zealand became another home. I lived in NZ from 2009 to 2013, producing music festivals, before founding Saving the Wild and returning to South Africa in 2014 to work on the poaching crisis.

I still return every summer for Saving the Wild events and my whānau.

And I’ve loved seeing Kiwi icons, including Taika Waititi and SIX60, experience South Africa’s wild places between these games.

At the rugby hospitality box, Teeks introduced me to Ji, lead guitarist of SIX60.

“Are you in a band?” I asked. I vaguely recognised him.

“Yeah.”

“SIX60?”

“Yeah.”

@ji_fraser was politely bracing himself for small talk, just as my internal time machine hurtled back 16 years.

“I saw you guys tear the roof off a bar venue in Mount Maunganui in 2010!”

He laughed. “That was a long time ago.”

It was just months before @six60 exploded with the release of their breakthrough single Rise Up 2.0. They’ve been filling stadiums since 2019. 🔥🎸

Mostly we spoke about the band’s time in the wild. Beautiful memories, but harder stories too.

Since 2010, we have lost more than 10,000 rhinos to poaching. 🩸🦏

We need help. We need the endgame. We need justice.

And that is the power of bringing different worlds together, because music, like nature, knows no boundaries.

Sport is different. We want to win, but what a game! The Bokke won by just five points.

On Sunday, All Blacks captain Ardie Savea attended Dawn’s church.

They prayed for Ardie and his injured shoulder. 🙏

“When Saving the Wild hosts groups on safari in South Africa, we always return to Motswari in the Timbavati. Its conservation ethic runs deep, reaching back to the pioneers who helped shape Greater Kruger.”
– @jamie_savingthewild

Conservation is measured not by words, but by decisions that leave a lasting legacy.

This year, as @motswari_life celebrates fifty years of tourism and conservation, we honour a family whose commitment has extended far beyond tourism.

In 1993, Paul Geiger was instrumental in removing the fences between the Timbavati and Kruger National Park, helping restore one of Africa’s most important connected wilderness landscapes. That decision still benefits rhinos, elephants, lions, wild dogs, and countless other species.

This legacy continues through his daughter, Marion Geiger, whose stewardship of Motswari reflects the same enduring commitment to conservation. Ten years ago, she co-founded Motswari’s conservation initiative, @rhinodisharmony , to help ensure the next generation inherits a world where rhinos still roam free.

Conservation is not a feeling. It is a way of life. Wherever we are in the world, we can choose to support the people and places that work every day to protect our shared natural heritage.

Last June I had the great privilege of spending time with @saving_the_wild and a team involved in intel driven investigations on the frontline of the Rhino Crisis in Greater Kruger, South Africa.

With @thepowerinusproject we feel that being on the ground changes how you understand the work.
It’s not abstract, it’s not distant.
In Grand Kruger we learnt it’s people, showing up every day to protect something they believe is worth everything.

The power of the Rangers, vets, pilots, intel teams, conservationists, everyone who spends their life fighting for the protection of Rhinos was a power we will not forget the feeling of. Overwhelming proof that people live everyday standing for our kind of future, our kind of love, our kind of power, and we should too.

July 31st, World Ranger Day, my single Our Kind is available on all platforms, donating 100% of its streaming royalties to Saving The Wild.

Stand with those that are doing the real work and fighting for the existence of these beautiful animals and the biodiversity of our planet, by joining the chorus.
Share ‘Our Kind’ with your reels, your posts, your people, let a bigger purpose flood into mainstream media so we can get the worlds attention.

Be the Chorus.
Be Our Kind.

Use #ourkindsong so we can amplify the voices of conservation.
