The Aegis girls loved Philadelphia! We can’t thank the city enough for the warmth you showed us and the enthusiasm you had for the race. Unlike most other teams, Aegis x Leaders of Enchantment staff and riders opted to stay in the Germantown neighborhood not too far from the Manayunk Wall. We met so many fine folks out in the streets…some of whom watched a bike race for the very first time! This is what it’s all about. Can’t wait for next year. Also…whose cheesesteak was the most culturally authentic? These things matter.

The Philadelphia Cycling Classic has a deep history in USA pro cycling, the first edition in 10 years was met with respect but also colorful passion befitting the character of this great American city. The team Aegis x Leaders of Enchantment pre-race strategy meeting was thorough - for example, a complete reading of the technical guide for the race without a doubt lead to @lollyis_lauren securing the green sprint jersey. The same meeting also emphasized riding with confidence and joy for this incredible sport. This group of women and the team of dedicated staff behind them made the most of this week in Philadelphia, strengthening team bonds, gaining valuable experience and having a damn good time during it all.

🇺🇸 Philadelphia Cycling Class p/b AmeriGas WE (1.1) | ⛰️ Philadelphia - Philadelphia (102 km)

Ten years after its last edition, the Philadelphia Cycling Class returned to the women's calendar. Once part of the WWT, the American race is now back as a UCI 1.1 race. Three WorldTour teams took the start, alongside two CTW teams and multiple club squads from North and Central America.
The 102 km route featured four laps of an undulating circuit, featuring the climbs of Manayunk Wall (700m at 9.7%) and Lemon Hill (200m at 8%). Halfway through the race, a breakaway of five established a gap, with Elisa Valtulini, Rachel Galler, Kimberly Stoveld, Galen Bolard, and Rebecca Lang. This attack lasted for about 30 km before being caught. During the final passage up the Manayunk Wall, Olympic Champion Kristen Faulkner attacked, followed by Consonni, Skalniak-Sójka, van der Wolf, and... Megan Guarnier! Winner of the last edition, she returned to racing this year at 41 years old, 8 years after her retirement, with the US club CCB p/b Levine. This new group stayed in the lead until 13 km to go. The final kilometers were characterized by several attacks, with EF Education particularly active, but the race was decided in a sprint of about 20 riders, disrupted by a crash at 500m to go that also involved Maggie Coles-Lyster. The finale came down to a duel between the lead-out trains of Canyon//SRAM and EF Education, with Chiara Consonni coming out on top ahead of Alex Volstad and Ella Sabo.

They say Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States of America. And I’ll counter that with “Philadelphia is the site of a once lauded, big time professional road cycling race that was cancelled and now exists once again.”
The Aegis x Leaders of Enchantment women have been preriding this historic course inbetween coffee sessions and are ready for race day, they declare it in fact.
Benjamin Franklin once said “nothing is certain in life but death, taxes and puncturing on expensive TT tires”
