Founding artistic director @janeecefreemanclark1 is devoted to consciously cast, socially relevant productions.

She is the founding artistic director of Montclair’s Vanguard Theater, which is celebrating its 11th year as a professional regional theater. Vanguard set out with a mission of “changing cultural and social narratives through theater,” summed up in the theater’s motto, “DREAM,” which stands for diversity, reciprocity, education, activism and mentorship.

“Everything you can imagine is represented on that stage,” says Clark. “It seems like such a simple concept, but it makes a huge difference to see yourself and to see a story told through your eyes.

Changed forever 💜

I don’t think I’ll ever fully wrap my head around what these past two months meant to me. Thank you to @janeecefreemanclark1 @vtcnj @jason_0721 @katieclaireb for creating a space for us to shine, and to @stevensater and the great @theduncansheik for creating music that is now a permanent part of me.

But the biggest piece of my heart is with the people in these photos. My Spring Awakening family—we’re connected way beyond just this one season. I love you all forever and always.
