Just a few glimpses into the many moments of beauty during today’s Patchwork arts retreat. There was a sewing machine humming and several paint palettes open on the tables, a linocut nearly finished and essays in the works. A visit to a local art studio and a class on vase arranging to round out the day.

Thank you to all who came and shared your beauty—with a special note of gratitude to @hcbellingham, @carol.bultsma.art , @flowerlyfarm , and @janeldavis for all the ways you made today so special 🧡

Meet Janel Davis || Janel Davis grew up in the Cascade foothills of Washington state, but spent her summers in the rainforests and on the barnacle-covered rocks of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. She loves obsessively learning something new (How to make the best Caesar salad!), biking on trails, baking bread, and eating tasty food with talkative friends.

As a mom of two elementary aged children, she seeks outdoor experiences that soak in the light of the sky and take in the freshness of the forest. With many closed friends impacted by suicide, domestic violence, and drug addiction, her poems often work to process tragedy as it intertwines with faith, nature, and family life.

She is frequently found on the beach making a joyful noise on her ukelele, dreaming of matching haircuts with her poodle (Mullets!), and sipping a locally roasted decaf Americano.

Announcing Stir Imaginations: An Afternoon with Douglas Kaine McKelvey & Ned Bustard

Join us for an afternoon celebrating writing and art with two masters of the craft, Douglas Kaine McKelvey and Ned Bustard.

We'll learn about Doug's approach to liturgy in a writing workshop, and get to do hands-on ink rolling and printing with Ned, joined by local linocut artists!

Event is free but registration is required (event link in bio). Please join us!

▪️Saturday, November 11, 2-4PM
▪️Hillcrest Church in Bellingham | 1400 Larrabee Avenue
▪️Parking: the Commons can be accessed from the Larrabee Street main doors on the north side of the building. There is plenty of parking, on both the north and south sides of the church. Thank you Hillcrest for hosting this!

(If you're attending the Launch Party that evening, please come early and join us for this as well - RSVP separately so we know who's coming!)

“Stir imaginations" is one of the closing phrases of "A Liturgy for the Writing of Liturgies" in Every Moment Holy Vol. I, by Douglas McKelvey & illustrated by Ned Bustard.

She said yes to a play on stones. The request: an anniversary band that somehow included her birthstone. After some research I found that both diamonds (traditional) and sapphires (mystic) are the birthstone for April. The White Sapphire was the result. Now I want one.
