I want to thank everyone again for all of the birthday acknowledgment. I truly appreciate the love, more than you know! Age is truly a state of mind. Beautiful people like @repmaxinewaters inspire me tremendously with their boundless energy, tireless dedication to uplifting our communities, and courage to back up their words with action! She’s always been a big supporter of hip hop. I recently performed at an event she hosted, where she was the first to stand up and party, then showed me her version of my dance. She told us she’s “88 and feeling great.” May we all be as fortunate! 🙏🏽

So special hosting these lovely ladies alongside @wearelwd for a book chat supporting my big sis and friend @marabrockakil! Her debut novel @therevelationofdionnedaphne was the foundation for a beautiful discussion on life, waiting, shame, identity and growth. Thank you @iamdebralee @gabrielleglorebk @jordan for your partnership and for indulging all my random ideas💡

DJ Cassidy’s Pass the Mic Live was a beautiful celebration of Hip Hop! Great music, great energy, and even greater people. Grateful for every moment on that stage and backstage with family, friends, and legends who continue to keep the culture alive. 🙏🏾❤️

To my faithful @essence family, I’m revved up and ready to definitely make Sunday night at @essencefest one to remember! Bringing some very special friends to rock with me. It’ll be my first time rocking with almost all of them, which is exciting considering how long I’ve been at this! Trust me, you won’t want to miss this lineup. There’ll be something for everyone! See you soon! #EssenceFest

I love this! Seeing these @nycshools kids perform my version of the #gonygonygo theme song makes me smile, because I wrote it with my sons and because I don’t know where I’d be without the help of public school #musiceducation.

A few weeks ago, I posted about the impact my junior high school music teacher had on my life and career. I created the beatbox after budget cuts removed the music program from my school and took away the trumpet I’d been learning to play. I started using the breathing exercises I learned in class and mimicking the sounds I heard echoing out of the Mom & Pop record shops in Harlem while walking home from school. The rest is history!

Bravo to these beautiful Brooklyn students, to their cool teacher for teaching them the song, and to the @nyknicks for bringing home the win! GO NY GO NY GO! 🏀

Check my stories for the original song.
