The first ever Jackal Gallery (#berwickupontweed ) print exchange is now exhibiting until the 3rd November! This has been an inspiring project to be a part of, connecting artists and printmakers from across the UK...

This is the plate of my drypoint for the exchange, titled 'Quiet Waters' inspired by watching the swans on the Tweed.

This is an enlarged image of my drypoint, in the window-display for the first week!

I recieved these amazing 4 prints as part of the exchange, which showcases the diversity and range of individual artists and printmaking techniques!

The thing is about Berwick upon Tweed, it's totally over stimulating. Handsome old buildngs, bridges, river and sea views ofcourse, but add to that the extraordinary cultural offer of the town. Phew.
Hot on the heels of the @berwickopenstudios , last week saw the @berwicklitfest and it's demanding schedule of interesting author talks, an opening of a group show @old_brewery_studios , a Print Exchange and lecture at Jackal on Hide Hill (ongoing exhib and thankyou @janeporterillustrator for the beautiful print), and an artist commission, sound and light work by Ed Carter illuminating and celebrating the 200th birthday of the lighthouse.

I managed yet another visit on the final day to the intense and very moving Joan Eardley Catterline and the Sea exhibition at the Granary Gallery. Thankyou @maltingsberwick and James Lowther for this remarkable show that understandably drew visitors from afar to see it.
Do not miss the beautiful film and textile installation by artist Paddy Hartley on until Saturday @strawyardBerwick .Think you know Paddy's work as mainly ceramics. Think again! This is a really wonderful show.

This is a small town that delivers so much, of such quality. Now for a rest.

A packed day at the Creators Emergency Summit which we were proud to sponsor. Our CEO Barbara spoke to the audience about the work we’ve been doing on AI licensing. There were so many brilliant panels on finding solutions for creators in this new digital landscape we’re all facing. Our full report will be available on our website shortly #generativeai #writingcommunity #writersofinstagram

Macklemore stood on a stage and said Free Palestine, knowing that using his platform in that way could have consequences.

And that’s the kind of courage I want to teach my children.

To speak up when something is wrong.
To stand up for people who need someone beside them.
To care about injustice, even when it’s uncomfortable.
To use your voice when staying silent would be easier.

I want to raise children who believe the world can be better and who have the courage to help make it better.

These are some of the books I love for starting those conversations about speaking up, standing together, compassion, courage and making change.

The stories we give our children help shape the people they become.

Free Palestine. 🇵🇸

Went on a brilliant workshop yesterday morning led by @janeporterillustrator
We were shown how to make concertina sketchbooks depicting the river tweed that runs past our home, where I walk every day to think, relax and exercise. We all got totally lost and absorbed in the process - such a lovely morning and so pleased with the results 😻
Thank you Jane and the organisers @sk.churchills and @tweedriverculture

Well that was fun! Thank you Jane Porter @janeporterillustrator for inviting us to imagine the River Tweed as a concertina book and giving us the tools and materials with which to do that!
Thanks too to Chloë Sayers, connecting Threads, Destination Tweed, for facilitating the day and to everyone who came along and made it such a success! Watch this space for news of the next Norham Arts adventure on 22nd and 29th October! #chloësayers #janeporterillustrator #rivertweed #connectingthreads #destinationtweed

It's back to school time for many! My daughter starts school tomorrow! ✏️✨

This illustration is from The Boy who Loved Everyone. A great book for sharing with those starting in reception, as the world in the book shows lots of things they will experience - dining rooms, hand washing, carpet time, new friends, crafts, trying to sit still, playing and all the rest! It's also a great story about empathy and love and learning, written by @janeporterillustrator featuring a sensitive sweet boy called Dimitri. Published by @walkerpicturebooks

✍️ Learn how to make a spectacular 3D concertina sketchbook at this creative workshop led by illustrator Jane Porter @janeporterillustrator!

🗺️ You’ll use folded paper to create your own fantasy version of the river Tweed, then embellish with ink, collage, rubber stamps, curled paper and ribbon.

➿ The session is inspired by the Connecting Threads theme of ‘Under, over, round and through’, playfully exploring how the river moves and what it sees on its journey from the source to the sea at Berwick-upon-Tweed.

🫟 This is a hands-on workshop for all ages from six and up; children must be accompanied by adults. The workshop is suitable for family groups as well as adults without children. Wearing old clothes is recommended if you would like to use ink!

⏱️ Please note that this workshop will run twice on the same day at 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm. You can book for your preferred slot on the ticketing page.

🎟️ Spaces are free but limited. Book through our website now!
