FAREWELL, JAROSLAV: 2025 involved the inevitable changes in the cast of characters, but @kaizen_mma boxing is still feeling the absence of @jara.mara after he had to return to his home Czech Republic in March. But at least we got a fine first quarter of good cheer and outstanding skill!

MY 2025 IN BOXING & MMA: 21 fight cards (pro/am boxing and MMA) and 13 weigh-ins for the same, combined with 265 gym visits and other events to capture sparring, training, and profiles/portraits, all leading to a daunting 7.93M images, and many more memories. For the 10th year, this series highlights some of *my favorite* fights and moments of 2025, shaped by my usual preferences—including favoring decision wins over knockouts and a soft spot for “blue corner” fighters. Not claiming these are “the best” by any measure, just personal remembrances from another landmark year.

2025 BY THE MONTHS (FIRST HALF): Easing into Favorites season with two traditional summary sweeps, this an arbitrary pick of two images to represent the month… an all-time favorite in @josevelarde10, working out 1/14 at @kaizen_mma, and @kylehayyy taking shots at the late @ashburnboxing on 1/17… different kinds of tense situations for February, with @the_lion_king_mma and @safaripat.mma having fun in class and @jara.mara realizing he’s in for quite the ticket sales pitch with @tabish_faqiri, @kaizencoach_gusabel, and @jcy.thefly joining forces on 2/19, both at @kaizen_mma … for March, @hotung_davidsen_magnus and @cruznixforreal amid intense training at @kaizen_mma on 3/5, and @thereal_azizyasin celebrating victory on 3/15 @scottcujosigmon card in Lynchburg… @stone_kbc revels in his hardware 4/12 after fight on @knowledgeboxing Southern Maryland Smoke in Leonardtown, while comrades @terrymilburne and @safaripat.mma stage an unlikely but entertaining mock faceoff 4/26 at @kaizen_mma … for May, @aziz_noorzad1 showing his colors after 5/2 @elevatemixedmartialarts training, and @nickgrazfitness demonstrating (as ever) that it’s a lifestyle, 5/27 @kaizen_mma … and for June, @tabish_faqiri enforces penalty on @cristian_lagos16 after the latter lost to the former at soccer, 6/21 @kaizen_mma — and @safaripat.mma roars after 6/27 @rocketcombatsports win…

The bonus work with @hyena.mma was excellent, but this is what I’m counting as the end-for-now of the @jara.mara sparring era at @kaizen_mma — final seconds of final round with quintessential sparring partner @josevelarde10, 3/8 at @kaizen_mma

MOST PHOTOGRAPHED PERSON OF 2024 (4 of 5) — JOSE VELARDE: In 2024, my photographic “Big 3” would become the “Big 3 + 2”, the first addition being an extremely welcome reacquaintance with @josevelarde10 Jose Velarde… 1,254 days passed between the second photo in this deck (sparring @kavalli_762 Roberto Gonzalez 5/7/21 at @ashburnboxing) and the third photo (from 10/12/24 boxing sparring at @kaizen_mma), and I’m still embarrassed I didn’t recognize the guy who left a great impression in the Ashburn days. But he also brought the great news that he was starting up at Kaizen and he’s been a fixture since then, and I’m ecstatic for it! This deck opens with a post-spar shot on 11/26… shots 3 and 4 (latter with @kaizencoach_gusabel) are from that memorable first night back, 10/12… 10/15 break… 10/30 jumprope… 11/6 caucus with @tabish_faqiri … 11/25 class drill with @jara.mara … 12/3 class drill with @nicoescobar__ and subsequent cooldown stretch… body shot drill with @u.3z2 12/5… shadowbox and cooldown on 12/9… @kaizencoach_gusabel officiating a great mock face-off with @jara.mara on 12/12… euphoric checkweight on 12/16… 12/19 portrait… bagwork and cooldown 12/23… and bagwork 12/16
