We had a few things we wanted to do while visiting family this summer, but the hospital sure wasn’t on the list. Who knew Staph Scalded Skin Syndrome was a thing? Google it if you want, but not because I didn’t warn you… it looks as rough as it sounds.

Emmett would rather be swimming or looking at the cows, but we’re on day 2 here and may have a few more days. We’re ready for him to be our spunky, energetic, smiley and chatty boy again. Would you pray for him? For no further complications, for his appetite to increase, and his skin to heal quickly.

All things considered, we’re thankful we’re here. Both sides of our family are able to pitch in and have been so helpful. Oldest little dude is living his best life. Littlest dude is in good hands. For all that and much more, we are grateful ❤️

I turn 35 tomorrow. I’m not a superstitious person, but I am a little stitious. So on this last day of 34, naturally I looked up Psalm 34.

A psalm about finding refuge in the Lord. Of deliverance. Tasting His goodness. Him being near to the brokenhearted. If this year was marked by anything, it’s how near to Him I’ve needed to be.

Year 34 was one for the books. Not one where I’d do cartwheels about really cool and exciting things that happened. One I’ll look back on and remember all the ways God met me in some really hard weeks and months, mixed in with a million little moments that brought me joy as a wife and mom.

This has been more true than ever the last two months. Between May and June, I found out I was pregnant and lost a baby (unfortunately, a feeling that’s all too familiar even six years after our first loss). An ectopic pregnancy. If Merriam-Webster wants a refreshed description of “whiplash,” I’d be happy to add my personal experience.

Honestly, I didn’t really want to share that. But the reality is, it’s the hard stuff that breaks us and re-makes us. That, and everything else from this year, is part of who I am now. Every birthday means I’m bringing in stuff from the previous year, whether I want to or not. A version of me that didn’t exist the year before.

So, let me reintroduce myself as I go into another year. I’m Kaley. A wife, a mom to four (two in heaven), a daughter, a friend. Sometimes I take life too seriously, and sometimes I cannot be taken seriously. A girl who is so grateful that God is near.

35, I’ll see you bright and early 🤍
