POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

There is something specific about screening Skylark in a space that is already built for care.

I am feeling so full after this weekend’s private screening of Skylark in partnership with a Black Feminist Bookstore called yes, please: a bookstore and carespace located right outside of Atlanta.

When I sat down with the store’s steward @lauren_yesplease a few weeks ago, she shared a bit with me about how the space is used.

She is a doula and has welcomed new life in the space.

She has hosted dinners for Black women and queer folks to build community.

She has made it possible for Black women to co-work and to also sleep if they need rest.

It was deeply spiritual to bring Skylark’s message of care to a space built for care.

I will continue this same conversation tomorrow in a different room, virtually, with @_beamorg. Different format, different audience — same throughline: creating spaces for Black people to experience radical care and community.

I am grateful for hosts like @lauren_yesplease who understand that how a story is held matters as much as the story itself.

And I am grateful to @jasmineheals for hosting a somatic practice before we watched Skylark and @pamsmagiccauldron for the nourishment she offered with such care attention. Y’all her curry goat! But that’s another post!

If you are a Black woman reading this, I invite you to take the Care Revolution Quiz to find out where you might be on your own journey to center your care. Link in bio.

Jasmine Dennie (@jasmineheals) reviews “Unbound Narratives: Embodied Langauge” at Atlanta Contemporary (@atlantacontemporary), examining how the featured artists translate embodied experience into visual and linguistic forms.

“What it offers is a compelling meditation on the capacity of language as a tool to promote personal and cultural narratives that are influenced by powerful themes of identity, the Self, healing, and transformation.”

August was so full of abundance!

Working with major artist @latoyahobbs on a fun project, supporting my bestie @natrice.miller at her debut of two short films at Bronze Lens Film Festival, two weddings of beautiful Black love, first week at GSU as the Expert-in-Residence teaching a curatorial studies course, opening night of the amazing exhibition of @ayanarossart at MOCA GA, and ended with my dearest friends dancing at House in the Park✨💃🏽

Grateful 💫 Hey September 😉
