You people keep sleeping on tinkering.

I'm at BYOT & I find a wrecked G35, clapped out. But what does it have? A set of HelmHoltz canisters on a twisted up aftermarket exhaust system. ( Hardcore 🪨🤣 find!)

Sadly only 1 survived, yanked it, did a little research & did a (decibel sound test). As shown in the second picture, I was able to find a good location for the "J" section to weld along the exhaust flow path.

General rule of thumb, the bigger the canister, the shorter you go, the longer ,the skinnier you go, there are charts & measurements you can use. I winged it.

Before the HelmHoltz canister I read at about 86-89 (decibel-dB's), at idle, 77-80. HKS exhaust system is loud on a V6. After installation, dude. . . . . At cruising , high of 75-77 dB's at idle.. low of 59 dB's. (Holy ****). Took out all the stagnant drone, & that's without canisters on the downpipes (yet).

Car is twice as tolerable to drive now & the sound is still there for the sport exhaust tone you paid for. I can hear my terrible sound system now. Only thing left is figuring out if the IPDM being exposed to high temperatures is causing my gauges to go in and out.

Cool car for ideas.

That was fun( not ). Cold air intakes installed, bumper put up a fight ( thank you mystery junkyard man). Swap some sensors around, moved some brackets, & it's fit for road use after a drain & refill with Zinc additive & Valvoline oil. Going for AC, I'm suspicious of 1 o-Ring, but, I'll see.

God decided to jump start me & every old person's heart today with that loud heat lightning ⚡ boom. That was wild.

Just need to double check the coolant bleed process because, you know VQ's.

This is my 3rd 3.7L-VHR I've put together, so far, I like the way M16DDT Nissan Juke Turbo head bolts feel. Higher strength, holds more clamping force, & just the right length for these heads. All torqued & buckets in place.

Now the dreaded part, The VVEL Ladder assembly, this time around I'd like to see if I can install them dry, (check the cam lobe to bucket clearance), & "then" install with RTV sealant, because after lapping these valve seats I'd hate to re-glue this again.

RTV is not cheap fool. Especially from Nissan or Z1.

Grind ya teeth all you want it's my house😬, I will use my AC.

Allow me to present to you, a Legend amongst race car drivers, from New Zealand, a Mr. Graham Baker.

If you've ever seen a cat's eyes get big & wide eyeing your table dinner, that's what it was like listening to this gentleman's stories of his past in racing.

Since 1957, he has been in Indy, Formula 1, & specifically Formula 5000, which was a series, that featured 5.0L V8 engines, topping out around 500 HP in (at those times) lightweight chassis, which was a racing series from 1968 to 1982. During the 60's, he raced for Lotus about a year from 1965-66'. In the 1970's during (the groovy times & big hair), he began his campaign on racing in the European & Australian division.

He raced for 20 years in Australia for Indy & Formula, & even got to drive Raymond Harts 1966 GT40 at 200mph in Elkhart Lakes Raceway in Wisconsin. Once he was Sponsored, by a Japanese Millionaire to drive it, which is now in Japan on display .

Not to mention a time or two he
Test drove cars for Ferrari & McLaren at Silverstone, giving advice on braking, suspension feel, where power should come in & aerodynamics( I feel that any man who's gone 200 mph in anything on land & lived to tell the tale, knows a thing or 2 about aero.

From driving Ford Falcon Sprint racing model cars, to Gold Leaf lettering & numbers laid on thick on nearly everyone's cars back then, to taking it easy driving GT40's in Palm Springs Chuckwalla Valley Raceway he still plans, at 87 years of age to go to Pikes Peak again, this year. He's got a race tomorrow in Nola Motorsports on the big track outback & it's a sight to behold. Also. . . .

It makes man go & ask himself, "what have I got in my ( Life) portfolio at the moment?" If movies have shown & taught us anything about the past, we aren't topping the time this man had.

All the best wishes to this gentleman & hopefully many more race wins & trophies piling around the wall.

You should have been there, ear to ear, smiles, was so exciting.

It Happened. . . Time to be BAD.. (inner Stewie)

Huge shout out to @fanboy_swag for the R33 style bumper.

I forsee a lot of cutting & Itching in my future, I'm not related to Tyrone Biggums, it's gonna be fiberglass in my skin. I've never shortened a bumper before.

For the first time, in a while... I'm excited. The widebody can begin

Thank you all for your help who tried.

Figured it out ! (Bunch of BS that Carlos Ghosen caused).
So as stated on a few forums from searching for about 5 mins, I "stumbled" on what someone said that in 2007, Nissan/Infiniti decided to move parts around, such as using a rack & pinion that uses an M18x1.0 thread for an inner tie rod. When though out all of the 80's up to 2006 , Nissan used an M16x1.0 thread on the inner tie rod.

Now, that's to say yes, with certain package deals like the track package, fully loaded models came with certain racks from 2007 to 2010. It gets confusing, but at least in 2012, they switched back to an M16x1.0.

Why is this important? Due to S chassis rack & pinions getting harder to find & rebuild kits becoming discontinued unless you know a 3D printer guy, you'd want to run this rack & you can find it anywhere. Quicker throw, longer, much more sturdy, cheap, rebuild-able, & the S chassis uses ( M16x1.0) with an M14 threaded section for the outer tie rod.

My conclusion, from 2011-2020 they use this rack pictured here. Same row, a few cars down, a 2014 Q50 in bad shape had the same rack, but the tie rod got smashed, assume damage to the rack. Also both cars had the Akebono brake package it seems & I bet that's a factor in all this.

Well, with some much needed time in the garage ( with the phone inside the house) I may have figured out the engines final resting place as far as clearances go. Once again, had to cut the transmission tunnel a 3rd time! 😔 Get rid of an L formation on the tunnel butting up against the transmission.

As you can see in one of the photos, I had to make a sacrifice of bringing down the transmission mount by 3mm, as with it mounted "completely flush",I couldn't BEAT the new tunnel additions in enough to clear some much needed transmission bolts . The Sub-oil pan should clear once the mounts are squished. Believe it or not my 09 Nissan Maxima low pressure AC line fits the 2014+ AC compressor, but not in-between the 2.

Driveshaft sits back in it's original position besides being off pivot 3mm or so. That (little nub) is the bottom of the transmission, it was that low before, now 3mm lower. Once I remove the engine once more then re-install , all should be on place. . . .
Besides my 9 yr old shifter( a moment of silence for Phillip) 🌕🌖🌗🌘 he was a good shifter. Forged from Energy Drinks & Project Binky. It shall be melted into a paper weight.

First few pictures are before, last 2 are after.

Decided to put the VVEL+iPDM modules inside the car to take the ( Elements) factor away from the situation. As I ALWAYS see, " Hey I got an aftermarket hood didn't fix my window seals back now my car won't start, can you help me?"

That giant junction plug is prone getting water because the factory weather proofing fails to keep water out the plug, this causing corrosion in the pins looking all green.

Grinded down some metal, got some 3M seam sealer for the floor board seams, specific areas welded, & wheel well seams, due to the nature of this car. I should be able to curl the excess harness up into the A pillar area near the window, there's Soo much space with the Q50 Blower motor you get an EXTRA foot(1ft) to put something there. ( mini fridge? )

But still, it's coming along, trying to get my energy back.
