I’m a (half) marathoner.🏅

I never thought that running a half marathon for the very first time at age 41 would be on my 2026 Bingo Card but here I am.

I started my running journey in the winter of ‘25. Having recently worked with athletes who are in the fitness and endurance space, I was inspired to go on my own personal fitness journey. I remember telling my friend Ely that I’ll just start with running 1 mile a week on my treadmill. After a few weeks, 1 mile turned into a 5K.

Eventually, I had to face the inevitable - run outdoors. I picked up running around 2011 but eventually had to quit due to planter fasciitis. I just accepted that my days of running were over. I neglected my health and fitness in my 30s and spent a lot of time drinking, gaming, being sedentary and not prioritizing sleep. I turned 40 last year and realized that I needed to make a change. Especially now that I’m a dad.

Fast forward to May 6, 2026. I ran outside again for the first time in 13 years. It felt like death. My running form was terrible. I had no clue what an “easy run” was. I just wanted to see if my feet were going to be able to handle it. They did.

Later in May, my friend Justin invited me to run the DC Half Marathon in September with his brother (RJ) and cousin (Mark) who were also good friends of mine. They’ve been running half marathon’s together for a couple of years now. The rest is history.

September 20, 2026 - RACE DAY
The race atmosphere in DC was incredible. Running with 10,000 other runners just hit different. After mile 10 (which was the longest I’ve ran in my training block), the runner’s high was real. But halfway through mile 11, my legs were cooked so I had to grind it out the rest of the way until the finish line. Overall, I trusted my training and fueling strategy and finished the race strong and injury free.

Running is hard. But once you figure it out, the rewards and relationships you build along the journey are invaluable. Grateful to my tribe and for being able to move. Here’s to movement, many more races, and doing hard things. ✌🏽

Recently, we did a podcast with Dr. Mandy and Jason Fitzgerald from the strength running podcast. There was a lot of great insight in the entire podcast. Here’s a short clip. Remember, strength training is a big part of running durability. Listen to the whole show by going to your favorite podcast player.

Boulderthon runners! Come hang with @jasonfitz1 and @jwlevitt on Friday afternoon before race weekend.

More than 400 of you used our code to register for the race (FTLR2026 still saves you $20!) and we want to hang with you at @patternbreakbrewing!

Look for an email from @boulderthon directly with the link, or check the link in story to register. It’s free to join, and we’ll have goodies from Boulderthon sponsors like @lululemon and @precisionfandh, in addition to some other goodies that Jason and I are bringing. We might even buy some drinks for the first few folks to arrive!

#catchyouonthenextmile Breaking through with mental toughness and the mental block.

I've experienced a mental block that has prevented my performance to reach to the next level. I'm not sure what it is and why I'm scared to push when it is needed.

I had a great race effort Sunday at ATC10K, but wanted so much more. I felt great after the event and even was ready to run the course again after crossing the line.

While this is a great display of the fitness we've built, it doesn't translate well when you missed a goal by "this" much.

@jasonfitz1 has an awesome Training Journal that I'll be using to document this mental game training I'm about to tackle and plenty of good episodes to go back and listen to again on this topic.

I'm curious to see what you so have to say about this. Have an amazing day!!

There were so many gems in this podcast. Go to your podcast player. Restoring human movement podcast. And search back for that episode. It released end of July 2026.

But we are on the mend woth a sold rehab routine and building back the miles SLOWLY this time😅🫣

If you have been struggling with pain on the outside of your knee after running, it is most likely ITBS (but i’m no doctor fyi lol)

If so, dm me and i’ll send you all the info I have and the exact routine that’s been working for me, credit to the man @jasonfitz1 and his podcast🤝🏽

One of the best ways to improve your running gait is strength training. While it’s helpful to “think about” what your body is doing, it’s actually more automatic to change what attributes your body has such as how strong a limb is, how much endurance it has and how much flexibility.
#If you’re looking to improve your running performance and running economy, strength training is second to none. Listen to this podcast that we did on the restoring human movement podcast with host of the Strength Running podcast Jason Fitzgerald. @jasonfitz1 #running #strengthrunning #gait #runner
