Community Spotlight: Adelia Carrillo Fakhri

For Adelia, entrepreneurship goes beyond building companies, it’s about creating access, opening doors, and bringing people with you.

As Co-Founder + CMO of EventHi and Co-Founder of Blunt Brunch, Adelia has spent more than a decade building platforms that help cannabis creators, entrepreneurs, and women connect, grow, and lead.

Her Mexican-American heritage continues to shape how she approaches leadership: with resilience, hard work, family, and community at the center.

And her impact goes beyond business. Through mentorship, board service, nonprofit work, and simply being visible in rooms where Latinas have historically been underrepresented, Adelia is helping make the next generation of Latina founders and leaders feel less like the exception and more like the norm.

Her philosophy is simple:

When one person finds an opportunity, find a way to open the door for someone else too.

As Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month comes to a close, it’s worth remembering what this month is really about.

Observed from September 15 through October 15, it honors the histories, cultures, contributions and lived experiences of Hispanic and Latino communities across the US.

Although, odd (the middle of 2 months), the timing is intentional: seven Latin American countries celebrate their independence during this period. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua commemorate independence on September 15, followed by Mexico on September 16 and Chile on September 18.

For LCA, this month is also a reminder that our communities have helped shape culture, business, advocacy and cnnbis, and deserve to help shape what comes next.

The month may be ending, but the work of celebrating, supporting and making space for our communities should continue year-round.

Our heritage is forever, impact is ongoing.

A hospital system was deducting $17.50 a day from workers' paychecks for a meal it did not provide. Those workers were earning less than $15 an hour.

Martha Marx, Connecticut state senator for the 20th District, described this practice in 2022 as one of the issues that drew her into public service, pointing to homemakers and companions in elder care programs who she says were being mistreated by the companies that employed them. She also noted what that elder care system is built to do: keep people at home, which costs the state less than nursing home placement and is, in her words, better for the person.

She is a 2026 candidate for the Connecticut State Senate, 20th District.

The deadline to register to vote in Connecticut is October 27, and same-day registration is available during early voting and on Election Day.
