Farming 20 acres in the Snoqualmie Valley with my family. Skiing as often as possible.

How big was the flood? That’s a great question. Localized effects mean that the actual height of the water can be really different in different parts of the valley from flood to flood. In 2009 the Carnation gauge on the Snoqualmie hit it’s all-time high of 62 feet above sea level. When that water moves further downstream towards Duvall, the height can be affected by the flows on the Skykomish and even by high tides out in Everett. We’ve had reports from other valley bottom dwellers like us that this water was higher than both the 2009 flood and the 1990 flood. That matches our anecdotal records from prior owners of our property. So this is looking to be near or the same as the all-time high watermark. It was definitely higher than we were expecting based on the predictions, but we did an OK job of getting things up on to high ground. The biggest economic impact to us (besides the incredible disruption to life and restaurant and CSA deliveries, and our retail store) is probably going to be produce that was stored in our large cooler. There’s only so much we can do to get that stuff, jacked up higher and as we explore further in the next few days will get a better sense of how much produce was affected. Thanks for all the love and concern! We will keep updating here!

The 💯 fantastic @localrootsfarmstore in downtown Duvall, WA is packed full of exceptional, exciting local & imported food products and rad organic produce grown by shop owners and farmers Jason & Siri of Local Roots Farm.

It’s been awhile since I’ve visited and they have now expanded. Produce highlights include bietola, Zucca Montovana, Lucacrisp apples, Amarosa potatoes, baby fennel bulbs and of course a wide range of radicchio.

They offer an awesome variety of legumes, flours, oils, wine, pasta, snackies, sauces, spices, Sicilian PISTACHIO spread, preserves, cookies, crackers, and so much more.

I wish this shop was around the corner from my house. If you live nearby, in Seattle or planning a visit to western WA, you definitely need to plan to take a detour to this great community resource!
