july, you were good to me🫧

this month has been the rainbow after the storm, im feeling good and happy and that’s all a girl can really ask for, isn’t it?

this month i watched the odyssey, and i know this is an unpopular opinion, but i really enjoyed nolan’s adaptation of odysseus’ journey! of course there were some aspects that i did not fully enjoy (e.g., the portrayal of calypso and the lack of athena) but overall, i found it riveting and exciting and didn’t get up once to use the restroom haha

i am also currently reading east of eden by john steinbeck and LOVE LOVE LOVING it!! the characters, the setting, the plot! im about a quarter of the way through and am already aware that it will be one of my favorites

also currently obsessed with lemons, coffee, and the summer fridays vanilla lip balm🍋☕️💋

i hope you all had a nice month as well!! who’s ready for august?

TBR Challenge 📚

Thank you @craigsreads for tagging me in your brilliant iteration of this post!

💖 Next Book I Plan To Read: The Mercy Step by Marcia Hutchinson. I will get through the full Women’s Prize shortlist before the 11th (I hope!). I saw that @literaryphdelights enjoyed this one, so it’s my next pick from the list.

💚 Most Hyped Book On My TBR: The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I actually owned this book before (if this was the same copy, it would trump Beyond Black for 💙!), but I got rid of it. Whether I love it or hate it, I think it’s become a must-read.

❤️ A Book I Predict Will Be 5⭐: The Boy From The Sea. I’ve come across this book everywhere recently and it sounds very much up my street.

💙 A Book I’ve Put Off The Longest: It would be A Place of Greater Safety, but I can’t find my copy! So instead I’ve gone with Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel. I got this copy in a set with Wolf Hall and A Place of Greater Safety from The Book People at least 12 years ago, probably longer.

🧡 A Book From My Favourite Genre: I’ve neglected both historical fiction and Margaret Atwood in recent months, and the premise of Alias Grace sounds brilliant.

🫶 A Book From A Series I Have Loved: This is kind of cheating because I don’t really have any other series on my TBR. This is the last book I need to complete the Jane Austen collection!

Have you read any of these? And do you have any good series recommendations? I’ve done LOTR and dipped into Discworld...

👩🏼‍🍳 help! I’m still at the restaurant 🍝

Books I still haven’t moved on from and some of their quotes 💭

I was tagged in this challenged by the lovely @brontesbookshelf_ and wow was this a heartbreaking reminder of the books that made me sad!! I tried not use the same books I always do for this, but a girl can only take so much heartbreak.

I had to include the one by Kiera Cass because that’s the oooonly quote I have entirely memorized. Even ten years later I’m STILL thinking about that last ballroom scene. Absolutely brutal.

I’ve tagged some friends to try this too, but as always, if you’re inspired, TAG!

📚 build my bookish sandwich with me📚

I was tagged in this super fun and creative challenge by @almost__a__reader 🥰 You know the drill by now; I’ve tagged a couple of book besties to tackle this challenge but if you see this, consider yourself tagged 🫵 If you do, tag me as I’d love to see it!

My bookish sandwich is inspired by my favourite sandwich, The Ham from Spazio Paradiso in Carlton North, Melbourne. Typically the challenge goes: the bread, ham, lettuce, cheese and condiments.

Tried not to repeat books but sometimes you just love what you love 😝

💌 What’s in your bookish sandwich? Let me know in the comments!
