IRONMAN #5! Though each race was different, the one consistent lesson is how to find your way forward. This race didn’t go my way, but through that I learned that “forward” meant digging deeper than I had thought possible for myself and discovering the depths of perseverance. And when you have friends who bring shovels to help you, the possibilities truly are endless.

None of y’all understand how casual the planning of this was 😂 I still am in a bit of disbelief that we finished the Marine Corps Marathon!

For several reasons I’m so glad that I was able to be part of this. For Claire, for her late dad, for my friends doing a marathon for the first time. I get to see my friends maybe 2-3x/year, and even though meeting up to do a marathon was not something I ever thought would be suggested, there was zero hesitation and we jumped right in! I became even more amazed than I already am at what my friends are capable of. What an incredible experience to share the finish line with them.

Second photo is my first race with Bill’s Brainiacs, May 2010 with Bill Mattox front and center. It was a 5K.
