POV: you came to my House Class Pt.3 🏠✨
Look at someone new each time you watch and see how they come to life in the space. See how they dance with one another, feel the music and be in the moment. This is what it’s all about.

“An Endless Thread”

Feeling so grateful for the chance to have shown my final work of undergrad this past weekend. Such a fulfilling process and experience 🖤

I am sooooo thankful for the time I had working with these talented and insanely creative people. I am lucky to have been able to collaborate on this piece with so many supportive and hardworking movers.

MEET JAYMES CROWDER-ACRES!

From Chicago, Illinois, Jaymes Crowder-Acres is a dancer, choreographer, and BFA candidate whose work explores themes of self-expression, individuality, and the human experience. His repertoire includes street and club styles, Umfundalai, Jazz, and Ballet among other contemporary movement practices. He’s performed in works by master teachers C. Kemal Nance, Tere O’Connor, and Roxane D’Orleans Juste as well as a plethora of graduate and undergraduate student works and dance films. Alongside his many leadership positions, he has premiered 4 works at Dance at Illinois including Take It To The Cypher in February Dance 2024.

Jaymes describes his piece and choreographic process:
“Shadows of Obligation” introspectively explores the pressure as a performer and black person to give myself over entirely to the act of performing both on and off stage and the battle to not lose myself in that process. This work is a culmination of my internal battle between making my thesis for the entertainment and expectations of others and my desire to put myself first for once and do what would serve me and my strained relationship to performing best.
