Nostalgia city - Original composition

Nostalgia City was commissioned by Jay Byrnes for his album El asunto del tango, for baritone saxophone and accordion.

The piece draws on gestures, melodies and harmonies rooted in tango. Within that language, I introduced a section using extended techniques as part of the composition’s timbral resources. For the multiphonics, I started from Daniel Kientzy’s catalogue.

I’m interested in that moment when an instrument begins to sound in an unexpected way, but the sound stops feeling like an effect and becomes a natural part of the music.

🎧 Listen to Nostalgia City on Spotify.

CAIRNS! We can hardly believe it’s been almost two months since - and we haven’t done a wrap up post! Beautiful music, yummy food, gorgeous weather AND a resident turkey neighbour to wrap it all up 🦃 Cairns, you were a dream.

Thank you @afcmcairns for having us and to all of our amazing tutors (@stefan.dohr @cplamarca @lloydvanthoff @alexander_krichel @jackienewcomb @lachlanskipworth @jaybyrnessax @leonbosch61) throughout the festival. We are inspired ✨☀️🎶
