POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

What a privilege to welcome the incredible Jay Laga’aia to The Nest! 💙

Our Certificate IV students and some of our wider Pelican family were lucky enough to spend time with Jay for a very special workshop.

Jay shared stories, industry knowledge and plenty of words of wisdom, not just about performing, but about life beyond the stage.

One particularly special moment was hearing our students sing Endless Night from The Lion King alongside Jay. A beautiful moment, especially as the show holds a special place in both our hearts and Jay’s, having played Mufasa in the stage production. 🦁

A huge thank you to Jay for so generously giving his time and sharing his experiences with our young performers. We are so grateful for the opportunity and know our students will take so much away from it! ❤️

When you drop off fresh pipis and mussels, you have to take some home 😊 When Gab @_gabstr_ asks you how you’re going to eat them and you say “RAW” and he says what do you have it with lemon 🍋 and I say no… as is 😁 He replies, I hope I never get marooned on an island with you!!! 😳 I reply my sisters ancestors were cannibals, not mine 😂😜

Every legendary entertainer in this photograph gave their time and talent to help make Lani’s wish come true.

On Saturday, 22 July 1989, 3 year-old Lani was battling cancer, and her biggest wish was to go to Disneyland. So Tama & friends organised a benefit concert at Auckland’s Powerstation to help make that wish a reality.

He brought together some of Aotearoa’s best-known entertainers, who all gave their time and talent to the cause.

Temuera Morrison
Jay Laga’aia
Tim Shadbolt
When The Cats Away members: Debbie Harwood, Kim Willoughby, Dianne Swann
Sonny Day
Tama Renata & The Tama Band, Max Hohepa and Dale Renata
Moses Dawson
Mahia Blackmore

And another story from Tama’s life that most people never got to see.
