1st Syracuse Parents Weekend was a blast! Great time with Jaylan and his group of friends and their parents - some old, many new!

It hits me at events like this how sad I am to have to do these things without Jordan (their dad 💔). Sometimes the emotions just overwhelm me. As someone who is so independent and used to doing things on my own, these are the moments that are just so hard.

It also reminds me of what my kids face every day and how grateful I am for their strength, for continuing to push through and doing their best to live their best lives. Both of them!

Every “first” is hard, but hopefully each one makes the next a little easier.

Grateful for the friends I spent time with this weekend - some old and many new!

And so grateful for the Orange community and this Syracuse life for Jaylan!

Every day Jaylan is at Syracuse is a dream for him. And as his mom, watching him already make the most of every opportunity is a dream for me!

So proud that just weeks into his freshman year, he is already showing who he is, his passion for the sports industry and his drive to learn from the best.

Today, he was nominated to attend a special luncheon with members of the Falk Advisory Board where he had the incredible opportunity to network with leaders in the sports industry. And he was seated next to legendary sports agent David Falk, the namesake of Syracuse’s Falk College of Sport!

Even more special, he was able to spend time with Sandy Montag, who he has been fortunate to intern with for the past eight months.

So grateful to Dean Jeremy S. Jordan and April Mazza for recognizing Jaylan and giving him this opportunity.

Watching him pursue his dreams, build relationships and create his own path makes me so proud.

Keep dreaming big, Jaylan. You’re just getting started! 🧡🍊

These pics from NBA All-Star in 2016 are the last pics with my boys smiling and with me before our lives changed forever because of my breast cancer journey.

Today begins my 11th October since diagnosis and I am a proud SURVIVOR.

This trip was so important to me. I had just had a lumpectomy and, especially as a single mom, I wanted and needed to prove to myself I could do it all. I could be a mom, be in treatment, continue to work and live life with my boys.

I was able to keep this trip between surgery and the beginning of a treacherous chemo, radiation and immunotherapy regimen. And I was able to give my boys this very cool experience as ball boys alongside some of their favorite NBA stars.

What followed was 2 1/2 years of treatment. So many side effects and emotions. Hair that never returned to normal. Side effects that continued for years.

And then, just years later, my boys had another 2-year cancer journey with their dad, who tragically lost his life.

I wish we didn’t have to go through so much along the way. And I certainly wish my boys didn’t have to experience cancer with both parents.

But it made me stronger and turned me into who I am today.

A survivor. An advocate.

Cancer changed our lives forever. And we are here for all of you.

That became my passion and my mission, My Cancer Family. And my son turned his own loss into purpose too, creating Teens Joining Forces After Loss, a virtual support group for teens who have lost someone they love.

I wish none of us had to know this world. But since we do, we will keep showing up for others who find themselves in it.

That is our Cancer Family. And we are here for you.

I am so proud. When I found out the news on Friday, I cried happy tears for hours. I am so excited to share Jaylan’s new role - one of the Student Managers of the Syracuse Men’s Basketball Team. 🍊🏀

Some kids dream of being pro athletes. Jaylan’s dream has always been to be a Coach, GM or on the business side, and this position is proof that hard work, passion and dedication pay off.

Jaylan had a few phone interviews, a long written interview questionnaire and finally an in-person interview when he arrived at school last week.

I can’t wait to see him in action and know he will continue to learn and grow among the best.

And some of these pics go way back - from visiting his cousin at Syracuse in 2019 and another visit last year. Maybe Cuse was always meant to be. 🍊

Good thing I’m a NY’er…easy to get to games. I’ll be wearing Orange and cheering Cuse on all year. 🍊

We are all so proud of you, Jaylan!

After so much anticipation - Jaylan is officially an Orangeman! 🍊

He’s moved in, settled and already living his best life with some old friends…and so many new ones!

I’m not officially an empty nester until Jaron leaves in a few days, so this goodbye didn’t feel quite so tough - yet! Mostly, I’m just filled with so much excitement for Jaylan as he begins this next phase of his life.

And so grateful for the best big brother, who stepped in to help with move-in and continues to step up in so many ways in the absence of their dad. 💙

Thank you to @syracusehillel for FreshFest - such a beautiful welcome and an especially meaningful and much-needed community during a time of so much antisemitism.

Hello, Syracuse! 🍊

Have been anxiously awaiting this day since Jaylan was accepted.

So grateful he is about to be exactly where he wants to be.

Grateful Jaron is here to support and help. He chose this over being at the beach with all of his friends! There’s no better big brother, and watching the responsibility he feels in the absence of their dad is one of the most special gifts for me as a mom.

Grateful to also be on this journey for the next four years with best friends.

So many emotions, but mostly just so excited for Jaylan and what’s ahead.

Here we go! Let’s go ’Cuse! 🍊💙

Happy, Happy and Healthy 82nd Birthday to my mom! 💕

I’m sorry not to be celebrating with her in person this year, but I’m off tomorrow for college move-in - and she’s now almost a year into living her best life in Florida.

Everyone, please send her some birthday love. Whether you know her, have spent time with her, she was your lawyer, your neighbor, helped you in some way, you play mah-jong or Rummikub with her, or you simply know her through me - please wish her a happy birthday!

I love sharing my mom’s story because I hope it inspires someone, especially during difficult times, to remember all of the possibilities still ahead.

My mom went to law school when I went to college.

My parents had recently divorced, and as she connected with other people going through divorces, she was so disturbed by the way some lawyers behaved - watching families spend their life savings on legal fees while already going through one of the hardest times in their lives.

So she went to law school to become the “good” divorce attorney.

To settle cases, not drag them out. To help people through difficult situations. To charge reasonable fees. To make an already painful time a little less painful.

And years later, when I got divorced, she drafted our documents. He and I agreed on what we wanted to do, and it was easy and simple. I learned from the best.

I wish more people were like her.

And as a Grandma, she’s simply the best. A second mom to my boys. My best friend, therapist and lawyer all in one.

We miss having her in our everyday lives in NYC, but nothing makes us happier than knowing how much she is loving every day in Florida with Happy and so many friends.

And as I officially become an empty nester, I’m looking forward to spending more time together, to the travel we already have planned and, for her birthday this year...

Mom, I’ll finally let you teach me mah-jong 😂

Happy 82nd, Mom. We love you so much. 💕

Let the college goodbyes begin… and the countdown to empty nesting.

It’s been a summer filled with fun, travel, work, and so much time with friends. But the wind-down is officially here.

Loved having a “mom and boys” night with Jaylan’s best friend since middle school - another brother to my boys. And as Colby always says… I’m his second mom. 💚

So many mixed emotions, but more than anything, I’m just so excited for these boys and everything that’s ahead of them.

Ask me again in two weeks. 🥹💙🧡
