Caravan by @sumayazeidat at Sin Muros 2026 🎭

This is always my favorite theatrical event of the year, and this year did not disappoint! I had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with so many talented artists, and bring this funny, heartbreaking, hopeful show to life. Thank you @stageshouston for building such a beautiful comunidad.

“Caravan” by Sumaya Zeidat.
Performed as part of the 2026 Sin Muros Latinx Theatre Festival with @stageshouston .

(06/11/26-06/13/26)

Role: Luis

I loved the opportunity to meet and collaborate with so many amazing artists over the course of this process. This play was such a unique combination of dark and light, family and isolation, & shame and love. I can’t wait to see what life this play takes on next, and I’m happy to say I was part of its journey. Congratulations to the entire Caravan team, and the entire Sin Muros festival at large. ‘Til next time.🤎

This weekend was quite possibly the most exhausting one I’ve had since starting The Garden Theatre, but it was absolutely worth it. We produced three separate shows in one weekend, and each was special. I’ll post about the other two soon, but this one captured everything I love about The Garden.

Yesterday we presented From Seed to Stage, a cabaret celebrating 5 years of The Garden. Nearly 40 cast members returned to recreate original staging in their original costumes from past productions. It was basically a circus with so many moving parts and people, but it was pure magic.
I cried through most of it. Seeing five years worth of your body of work in one two-hour show is overwhelming to say the least. During our preshow meeting, I looked out at nearly 40 performers who had brought our stories to life over the years, all standing there in costume, and I almost lost it. The talent was incredible, but it was the heart in that room that got me. The kindness, support, and love for one another and for The Garden Theatre was something truly special. Where else can you see Joanne from Company, The Proprietor from Assassins, Jimmy from Reefer Madness, and Kathryn from Cruel Intentions watching from backstage while Celie from The Color Purple sings onstage? It was surreal and beautiful.

On a personal level, I got to be Bobby again for a few minutes, which meant the world to me. And to be completely honest, I’ve never felt more loved or supported as I did yesterday. As we celebrate our anniversary, I’m so grateful for every artist who has been part of The Garden Theatre over the last five years and 27 productions. The people I’ve had the privilege to work with are truly extraordinary. I somehow have all the words and no words at the same time. Just thank you. All of you.

Pics include several curtain call photo attempts because getting this many crazies to look at the same camera is apparently impossible 😝 Plus a video of part of the cast watching April Wheat absolutely slay “I’m Here” from The Color Purple, as she always does.

CRAVAN: By Sumaya Zeidat

Thank you guys for such a wonderful experience this week. Caravan is a beautiful story about family, grief, trauma and finding yourself and I am beyond grateful for this opportunity. I came in not knowing anyone, much less anything about a staged readings, but you guys helped guide me through it and create this wonderful environment that I never want to leave.

Thank you to my director @alejandro_martinez for believing in me and giving me this role. Thank you to our amazing playwright @sumayazeidat for a wonderful story that BETTER get produced. Your words and storytelling abilities are brilliant and I can't count the hours I spent praising this masterpiece.

Thank you to the designers and tech team for making this come true and making the process so easy and enjoyable.

Thank you to my wonderful cast for bringing this story to life and making this a week to remember. I thank all of you guys for your patience, support, for making me feel welcome and for the beautiful and light environment created throughout this process.

Lastly, thank you stages for making this a place where we can all come together a day celebrate our cultures while making an impact on our audiences.

I don’t think I was prepared for how hard it would be to say goodbye.

Being a part of Sin Muros and getting to play Oscar in Caravan was an incredible experience, but the people are what made it truly special. I’ve never laughed so hard or felt so welcomed by a group of people I had only just met.

Getting to celebrate my culture alongside people who love and embrace theirs as much as I do meant more to me than I can put into words. It reminded me how powerful our stories are and how important it is that we keep telling them.

I’m forever grateful to have helped bring this beautiful story to life. Thank you to everyone who made this experience what it was. Thank you for the laughs, the memories, and the love. My heart is so full, and I’m going to miss you all so much. ❤️

It’s opening night!! I will always jump at the opportunity to take on a Sondheim show, and Company has been a dream show for years. This was the show that got away when Covid hit. I didn’t realize it until today looking back at my memories, but when we were doing the show at Harbour Playhouse we were supposed to open on APRIL 10th!!! If that’s not the most amazing coincidence! It’s meant to be, and I’m so thankful to not only have the opportunity for a second chance, but to be on stage with this unbelievable cast. This is one of those casts where you just sit and watch during rehearsals because everyone is just that entertaining. Get your tickets now, you won’t want to miss this one! https://matchouston.org/events/2026/company
