POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Beautiful scenes from a retreat last month with @songwritingwithsoldiers in Colorado where eight veterans paired with songwriters to connect, heal, and create. I’m so grateful for having the chance to work with this organization for five years now and for my profession allowing me to witness such meaningful experiences. I’m forever moved by every person I get to photograph.

There’s something special about bringing the SW:S community together beyond the retreat.

On Thursday, August 6, we hosted our first in-person alumni meet-up since launching our online community space in April! Nine alumni from across Colorado—including participants from retreats dating back to 2017—gathered at Edgewater Beer Garden in Denver to enjoy appetizers, laughter, meaningful conversations, and each other’s company.

There were plenty of laughs, a few happy tears, and so many moments of connection.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this first meet-up so special. We can’t wait to create more opportunities for our alumni to reconnect, build community, and continue the journey together.

The retreat may end, but the connection doesn’t have to.

Before the studio. Before the final mix. Before everything that makes a song sound finished — there’s this.
Just a voice, a guitar, and a story that needed to be told.

“Daddy’s Son” started exactly here. Written at a @bouldercrestfoundation retreat in Arizona, by veterans who sat down with a songwriter and found words they didn’t know they had. Watch the acoustic version and hear where it all began.

“Daddy’s Son” — Official Video, out now.

Performed by Jay Clementi and his son, Brody Clementi.

There’s something about hearing a father and son sing this song together. The lyrics were written for a boy who lost his dad — and now they’re carried by a dad and his boy, side by side, voice to voice.

It’s the kind of moment that reminds you why these songs exist. Not just to be heard, but to be passed on.

Who do you know that needs to hear this today? Tag them below.

“Daddy’s Son” is out now.

Written at Boulder Crest as a tribute to a fallen comrade for his son, this heartfelt song honors a father’s life through the voices of those who knew, served with, and loved him. It offers his son the guidance, love, and life lessons his father never had the chance to share, ensuring his father’s spirit lives on through the stories and values he left behind.
