Border Biennial Opening El Paso Museum of Art 4 September 2026 Sometimes as an artist I tend to take for granted what makes an important and complex exhibit actually come to fruition. Many thanks to Edward Hayes, Director; Michael Reyes, Senior Curator; Claudia Preza, Development Director and the staff for making the Biennial a success. Without their dedication and professionalism, and working in coordination with the 2026 Biennial curators Alejandro Morales and Dr. Adriana Morales Olivas, our voices and work would never be experienced. #elpasomuseumofart #elpasoart #borderbiennial #epma #borderartists

“I remember going to a funeral by my church in La Union, New Mexico, and immediately noticing the distinction and uniqueness of the space. Even in cartoons, you see the traditional marble— you see traditional stone. The desert landscape provided a different setting, but was sometimes literally incorporated with the headstones—cholla crosses, native plant life planted directly and intentionally onto burial mounds.” — @jcgonzo Read about JC Gonzo’s A New Mexican Burial in the @sfreporter’s article, “Desert Dead,” at sfreporter.com/arts/desert-dead-in-santa-fe, and join us this evening for the opening reception, 5–7 PM at CENTER. Ranch Residency’s 2024 session came and went in the blink of an eye! we have endless gratitude to our artists in residence who poured their hearts into their practices and this community, Frank Rose (@frankwrose) who spent hours having studio visits with each artist, Hecho a Mano (@hechoamanoorg) for hosting our pop-up exhibition, and our Santa Fe community at large for showing up to see the work these artists created. The greatest compliment we could have ever received came from a couple who stumbled into the pop-up and said, “We have never seen so many young people in one room in Santa Fe ever!” Emerging and under-represented artists of New Mexico and beyond, let’s keep supporting one another’s practices!!! Ranch Residency is devoted to you! More information on the RR 2025 session will be coming to ya in late winter. Thank you all for the love and support🌀 thank you forever @madelinebrice.art @xelo_______ @notabbyfreed @jcgonzo @samuelanne @annnieokay @theviceroy @xandaaman @stallionwilson @lindz.redd @bestfriendmilk

2024 artist in residence… JC GONZO JC Gonzo @jcgonzo (b. Juan Carlos González, 1989, USA) is an artist, writer, and filmmaker from Anthony, New Mexico. His focus lies on re-evaluating cultural and environmental histories in a contemporary context as a form of meta-ecological research depicted through a variety of media, serving both as a referential document and a celebration of chaos in the natural world.
