One year ago, VESPER opened. Enjoy a smattering of polaroids from our time at the @voxeltheater . This show was a milestone for me as a creator. I stretched myself as an artist and producer and I learned so much. I’m incredibly proud of myself for manifesting the magical, dreamy, poetic world I had in my head. But the most profound gift was the incredible team of collaborators who came together make any of it possible. There simply aren’t the words to express my gratitude and the talent, skill, dedication, and generosity of every person involved. If you had any part in making this show happen or if you came to see it—THANK YOU!!

Hi, it's me, I just wanted to get ahead of the spooky season noise and tell you about this show I'm really excited about on October 29th. I think the lineup is just wonderful: Pangelica, Moth Broth, Albert Bagman, and a DJ set by our dear friend Shyboi. Soleil on divination duty. It's like a Halloween show but not on Halloween so you don't have to worry about missing that cocktail/rave/costume party you got tickets for in early August but you can also still totally wear a costume (for instance, here I am accidentally dressed like I want to start a cult, which is like Halloween Light, and you could totally wear something costumey that's not like your main Halloween costume but is maybe something you wore a few years ago that you really put a lot of effort into, but then the party you went to was lame and not worth the effort and you didn't even get a good picture so you want more people to see it). Also as you can see the show will be very gay but it's okay if you're not gay, we're allies and we don't judge. I don't know, I just think you're going to want to put it on your calendar. It's on mine.

I also wanted to say that I'm really grateful to everyone who came out to the release show for "Valley of the Golden Egg," everyone who played, and everyone near and far who has supported the song and music video. It was a huge labor of love (huge ups to Sierra for directing and Greg for editing, they are little evil genius wizards who put an insane amount of work into it, as did we all but especially those two 🖤) and the world is just really scary and hard to be in right now so it's really special and cool to be in this beautiful little garden of weirdos that is a refuge from the horrors of this sick world. I mean that sincerely but I hope you can understand also in a very chill and lighthearted way. Happy Halloween (observed)!!!!

Choose your fighter! Fish Jason, F*ckboi Sailor Greg, and Sea Hag Aris duke it out THIS Friday at 2640 Space on this week's episode of America's Blessed Top Grotto judged by Sylvia Jones, Bloody Crying Twinks, and Amy Reid. Afterwards we will crown a winner at Werewolves Welcome (it's you, you're the winner, we're so proud of you, and to celebrate your victory we will all drink together and screen this unhinged psychedelic romp made by hand in Aris's basement). Special announcement! We will now be screening "Valley of the Golden Egg" at the chic new Werewolves Welcome after the 2640 show on September 4th. Come kiki with us over a cocktail and peep this unhinged music video conceived and directed by dear pal Sierra Ho. And to keep the good vibes going, here's a first look from the video.

Fun fact, Sierra wanted all the effects, lighting, and underwater vibe to be conveyed through DIY practical effects, and Aris's ghostly dress (pictured here) was too heavy to move in the fans. Still had a fun time playing the song acoustic for these stills before filming started and can't wait to show you the final look! Keep your eyes peeled 👀👀👀

"Valley of the Golden Egg" will be released as a single and music video on September 4th and we hope you'll come out to see us play with dear ones Amy Reid, Bloody Crying Twinks, and Sylvia Jones. Stacked lineup!!!!

Hey. Last spring I premiered a concerto called Lancelot Chimera. I’d been working on it since 2019.

These are just two minutes of it, but you can watch the whole thing online if you want. I’m very proud of it. Link in my bio.

Jason Charney, who I’ve been working with for over a decade, did all the lighting and video and big stage design. He really let loose. I bought the plants and made all the music.

Alejandro Quiles filmed and edited the full concert film. And he similarly did a hell of a job.

Infinite thanks to The Voxel and to Alec, Tessa, and Chris who let us get really strange and esoteric and gave us the tools to make some incomprehensible statements. Thank you.

So I think art can be ugly. It can be difficult to understand, and sometimes I think art should be difficult to understand. Sometimes I think art is better when it’s a big mess. I want music and poetry and theater and movies and etc to make demands of me.

Maybe you agree, and if so I’d be honored if you took some minutes with concerto. Either you’ll like it or you’ll dislike it - - but you won’t be bored.

Lancelot Chimera, composed and performed by MoF director James David Young, received its premiere this past Spring at the Voxel. See more at the link in our bio.

After a long and tortured compositional process - - Lancelot ended up as a concerto for bassoon and electronics, and it ended up being about the end of the world (but maybe a sort of sometimes fun end of the world).

This is the cadenza at the end of Movement 1: Simulacra.

Jason Charney, production designer [and MoF co-founder], made the screen as yellow as possible.

Filmed and edited by Alejandro Quiles
